  • Trench Wars Television

    Dear SSCU Trench Warrians,

I have a proposal to bring to you. Since the decline of famous hosts for Trench Wars Radio, I've been debating on something new that could be brought to Trench Wars. I eventually came up with something called SSCU Trench Wars Television. Recently, there has been a way to actually broadcast a movie or dvd, etc., from someone's own personal computer, to a server, then to the rest of the community that chose to tune into the server. I'd like some of your input to see if you'd even bother tuning into such a thing, it if occurred. As far as I can think, it would probably show things like Family Guy? Or Dave Chappelle? Latest movies or old classics that people love? It might even be able to broadcast TWL games if they came along, and it was still a hit (for those that wouldn't be able to show up during the TWL weekends due to other things). Well, this is just a proposal. Some have said it's a waste of time, that people wouldn't tune in, and others have said that they'd be happy to tune in depending on what was shown. I'd be happy to get any input that you'd have to offer. Thanks!

    Lots of love,
    Left_Eye

Wild idea, would the tw television have a host ? I wouldn't watch it for TV
series nor movies, but anything subspace related would be interesting. Would
it be possible to watch league matches and TWD matches through it as a
live feed or a saved broadcast with commenting? Even TWD matches that
are being commented on could be interesting, if the host is good enough,
and fairly known to the community. In tw radio I lacked interest because
        of random unheard of hosts.

It wouldn't have to be a streamline broadcast, a youtube kind of collection
of clips on tw.org would be nice also. I'd love to watch and listen to the host
how my team sucked in a random TWD match while I was sleeping

wouldnt watch it at all, if i want to see something, ill just flip tivo to it. I come to ss to play, not listen to radio and watch clips of tv and movies. I can go anywhere with a tv and watch that crap.

I would only watch it if it shows stuff related to TW. I won't watch it for random programs/movies. If I wanna watch those I'll just download whenever I want or watch regular TV. But I'd really like it if you broadcast some interesting TW games. There could be different kinds of programs. Maybe a basing program featuring some of the best basing games or perhaps good races in that racing zone. Or a show that teaches you nifty lt shots.

                Interesting idea.

I wouldn't watch the channel for the tv series's or movies or anything, but something subspace-related (like Ara said) would be interesting.

Then again, what on earth would be the point of broadcasting something like TWL matches when one can just log on to view on ss first-hand? Sure you could argue that it'd be a way to get to view more matches than one (occurring simultaneously) but I wonder if the audience for something like that would be large enough for it to be worth it for someone to put the effort into it.

On the other hand, something like the old pallies videos and other projects like that would be really nice to see! But a better idea for something like that would be, in my opinion, to simply create a website (like youtube) where'd you'd collect and store these subspace-related clips for an easy viewing.

Someone can get a recording program, turn off their radar/chats (Although spec chat is usually hilarious when watching 3fers and stuff in TWL) and record the full screen match at high resolution. This would mean better viewing than just recording and converting it for YouTube (Lower quality at YouTube, you can't really tell who's who in games sometimes).

The quality is probably better when it's being streamed across the internet from a personal computer, so the games would be more enjoyable I am guessing.

If streams were provided, more people would log on to watch the streams instead of going to YouTube. If this would be done at YouTube, then TW wouldn't be getting that much benefit, although doing both would be a good idea also.

I don't see how TW would benefit from the recordings being streamed instead of being just stored somewhere, how would it? All we're aiming for is for the recordings to be available. And no I was not talking about having the videos on youtube, I was talking about a site with the similar idea except that the videos obviously need be in high def (since you can't see anything with bad quality). Storing the high def videos as files somewhere instead of streaming would definitely be a better idea quality-wise.

Those SubSpace related clips, blood, are already viewable on youtube. As for the actual files, I have no idea who has the actual files they recorded so it could be placed in better quality elsewhere. That's why I'm talking about here on out, that it would be able for someone to create the actual file.

Also, some are not able to view TWL matches due to being at work, or other situations. This would be a way for them to be viewed, maybe even with commentary, later on. But seeing as there is not much going on in TW until it comes up, there would be no need to have TW TV to broadcast this, except for maybe what jngy proposed, but even then, that will get old fast. The only main idea that would possibly keep things going are playing movies/shows, that people haven't seen or heard of (at least some people).

It would be awesome if it had a chat part to the right of the stream where people could talk.

Again, I've never suggested that the recordings be uploaded on youtube but simply some archive that's available for everyone and that the videos would be in higher definition. You could also add the commentary to the videos pre-uploading them obviously. You could also store episodes of some subspace-related shows there.

The reason I'm suggesting something like that is because I don't really see how 'TW TV' would contribute enough compared to the effort it'd consume.
