  • Trenchwars- Loyalty

Often times in tw, we have these squad hoppers that hop to and from squads during twl. If they choose they can reset their names in 2 days and hop to another squad. Theres no loyalty it seems anymore. I think tw should reward players for loyalty. Make it harder to swtich names and squad hop. Some possible rewards can be as simple as every year on the same squad, you can receive a star or a mention somewhere. We often recognize when squads last 1-2-3-4+ years we should do the same for people on the squads. Some possible ways to make squad hopping and aliasing harder include: 1 week wait time to reset name/join a squad after being in one. I think as a whole aliases and squad hoppers are slowly killing squads (in twl) and trenchwars.

    also

1:HeavenSent> tw should have a reward system like we do on our squad page... for staying on a squad the longest.. and capping a squad a long time.
1:desist> yeah it would keep players around
1:HeavenSent> not a dead squad tho..

But, 1 week is crazy... Even if you're not a squadhopper and just want to join a different squad (moving once in a year I wouldn't consider hopping).

And I don't think aliases are killing squads, but that's just my opinion. Squadhopping is just what some people do, and it'll happen no matter what.

Personally, I could care less for a "star" or something for being on a squad for a long time. It brings me no satisfaction for the lange that I am on a squad, just satisfaction in knowing the squad I remain on is worth not leaving.

Punishment isn't a very effective method when you want something done, but it has its uses. I'd like to see a combination of some reward offered to people that stay on a squad for a long time (since a reward is more effective than punishment) and I'd also like to see a collective effort from TW squad captains that tell people to fuck off when they want to rejoin after they've squad hopped.

The squad hopping problem is probably one of the most detrimental problems in TW today.

I think that if something like the 24 hour period was changed to a week, that would just have a worse impact because at least if they're squadhopping they're active in twd. When they're waiting a week, no squads benefit from an active member, lessening twd activity leading to the ultimate demise of twd/l and the mass suicide of millions.

reward wise, what can really be offered as an award? your name in a thread? your name in a newsfeed on tw.org? your name in news.txt in tw? a special color name on twd site? Nothing too rewarding to stop someone from squad hopping.

Personally, when penetrate asks about a certain player, the first thing I do is go to twl.trenchwars.org, statistics, player stats and look up a player's past squads (for some reason player search doesn't work for me on the twd site) to see how many squads they've been on in the past and how long they've been on it, whether they leave and come back and such. 'Cause I agree that squadhopping is ghey but I personally don't think there's much TW can do about it, more or less it's on the squads themselves.

Part of what makes certain squads so strong is their ability to hold members. There will always be people who hop, but it's for you to decide whether or not you want them. Making a new squad and sticking around is hard, that's why there are so few long term squads. I don't think it's the dark side of trenchwars, it's great that people have such freedom.

You guys are all wasting your time, as every year in the past, all of the good squads don't really play alot during the off season and all go off to join other squads, while the rest of their squadmates become inactive during the regular non-twl hibernation period. I personally know that Quicksand goes into big spurts of activity and inactivity, if people want to leave because we aren't doing shit and rejoin later I don't have any problems with it.

People don't need to be recognized for being loyal, they're loyal because they choose to be loyal...not for recognition. If someone seeks recognition on an internet game, they need to re-think their life priorities. And, the fact is, people play this game to have fun. If they're not having fun on one squad, they have the option to join another squad. It's a free game, people are free to make their own decisions without having to face restrictions, penalties, or punishments.

If you want to create a change in the game, you need to sit down and plan out a fully thought out policy that will absolutely work under all conditions.

And if you try to create extreme changes in the game, think of the possible consequences....not allowing people to switch squads when they want (they leave squads for a reason) will only cause these specific players to become unhappy, which will increase the likelihood of their decision to quit. As much as it sounds like a good idea, squad-hoppers are necessary to the TW population, you understand the whole chain concept. You take something out, things lose alignment, causing chaos and your systematic order becomes lost...THINK SON, THINK.

i think what reaver said was 100 percent correct. Give rewards for loyalty. Squad hoppers do indeed bring negative effects into the game.

most of the time people leave because the squad they are on can't win a game or they never play games.

how does the zone benefit from squads never winning games or never playing.

who cares if people go to different squads when they choose to? worry about your own squad and don't recruit these 'hoppers'

not sure if any of those are a reply to my statement but just so we're clear, I never said that people should be prohibited from leaving their squads. In fact, I was saying reward people for not leaving their squad, as for what to do with the squad hoppers...stop recruiting them. Leaving your squad during the off season is practically normal and expected, my posts are in reference to people that hop on and off during the regular season.

Squad hoppers during the regular season, and right before TWL starts are a problem though. I don't really see any rivalries in squads today like there have been in the past, but that's to be expected when most squads aren't even distinguished anymore because their members change so often. Not implying that's the only reason but it's a pretty significant one and I believe that if more people stuck where they're at there would be more interesting matches.

It's nice to have an ideal vision, then you can be determined to take the "right" steps towards attaining that goal or at least head in the "right" direction. However, when the game is free and the majority of the players are middle school or high school students (hence, the game being free...the newcomers are often young kids), you have to be aware of reality...and reality is, we're going to have squad hoppers...

And, why waste time on rewarding "loyal" members, there's absolutely no point, it'll be a waste of time. First you'll have to operationally define what it means to be loyal (you have to wear the squad tag all the time? you have to be rostered on twd? Rostered on twl? etc), then are you going to grant these rewards to those who don't even play anymore but have been "squadjoined" to a squad for months/years, blah blah...it'll lose it's prestige within weeks when the award is given out to hundreds of people...

How about, allowing staff to focus on more important issues like bots, twl, staff corruption, etc. This is irrelevant and a waste of time
