ok so i thought long and hard and i think I figured out exactly how to make everything work out...

so anyways, as i was saying, everything is relative cuz the real deal is that now, this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down And I liked to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air In west Philadelphia born and raised On the playground was where I spent most of my days Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys Who were up to no good Startin making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air' I begged and pleaded with her day after day But she packed my suite case and send me on my way She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket. I put my walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'. First class, yo this is bad Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass. Is this what the people of Bel-Air Living like? Hmmmmm this might be alright. But wait I hear there're prissy, wine all that Is Bel-Air the type of place they send this cool cat? I don't think sow I'll see when I get there I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air Well, the plane landed and when I came out There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out I ain't trying to get arrested I just got here I sprang with the quickness like lightening, disappeared I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror If anything I can say this cab is rare But I thought 'Now forget it' - 'Yo homes to Bel Air' I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later' I looked at my kingdom I was finally there To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air

You guys make some long posts. TL;DR risk. I like the idea of this thread. Here's my input, and I'll try to keep it concise.

      MVP:
Totally pointless as is, and actually harms gameplay. Usually it is the obstinate refusal to change ships that kills a team. It is the obstinate refusal to change teams that kills an arena. I say get rid of MVP and hand out prizes for all of the following, automatically:
      - Most kills
      - Most flag claims
      - Fewest kills (the lame award)
      - Most enemy terr kills (assassin award)

For the award prizes, I suggest adding 300 to the bounty of all ships you kill until the next time you die. Just like how the flag adds 200, but 300 is more, see? EDIT: Could also give a retroactive bonus of 50 points for each ship you killed during the round. The lame award would get no prize, just invite ridicule.

      Prize system:
It's busted. You get ridiculous points and then can buy as many of anything as you want. I say implement a cap system, where you cannot spend more than 10,000 points a day, or all prices increase by 10X, or spending points are tallied separately from regular points. I'm OK with very expensive (100K points) items like Thors and bricks, just to spice things up.

      TK system:
EDIT: I thought of something better. If you TK, you are automatically switched out of jav until you kill at least 5 enemies in any ship other than jav. This would be per TK shot, not per TK'ed teammate. Probably enforced by a bot.

Alternate idea, not as good: If more than 60% of the team PMs a TK bot with your name, you are forced out of jav for 15 minutes. Easy. The bot would verify that TKs occurred, so you can't just de-jav someone out of spite. This would be better than human enforcement, because it's effectively a mini-ban, and team-enforced.

      Team shuffling:
Excellent idea. Many times I have seen people stay on teams with the attitude that "We are the winners and they are the losers." Losers leave, the arena shrinks, people don't want to leave their winning team, and the arena dies. Learn to develop a working rhythm with all players, not just the few you like. Teams should be shuffled after a 3-0 victory or a round that is shorter than 4 minutes, or just every match. I think this would work wonders for keeping the arena alive when people do not have the wisdom to switch teams voluntarily. It also avoids scenarios when you are loaded with crappy javs, or the winning team wins because it has a few skillful sharks and your team refuses to counteract. EXCELLENT idea.

      Other:
      - Make purepub the default. Pub 0 is spawnkillfest and lev-terr wasteland with minimal basing.
      - Keep lev out of purepub.
      - Bring back small weasel with small weasel settings.

hmm i'm still kinda stumped with the MVP situation.

A big factor remains that, after you earn the MVP when the round's over, you will probably only live for another 5-20s unless you just camp in the fr. Same thing for the added bounty when switching ships -- if you needed to switch ships, chances are you're not going to survive with that +25 bty for very long. And then it's gone on the 1st respawn. The ideas for what you could do for MVP are pretty endless, but I think it's a good idea to make it something that sticks for more than a few seconds or 1 death, while not making the ship too overpowered.

What makes an MVP is going to be a combonation of factors. It's fair to say that being in a ship the whole time isn't the only factor, like most kills, most flag captures (though it is high up there), or any other measurable stat. It's probably a big challenge to come up with a formula that accounts for all of these, and it's definitely going to looked very contrived at first.

        **TKs**
well i've got a few ideas, mostly stolen from other successful games with friendly fire. I'll try to order them in the order of least added work (i think).

Longer respawn times for those that tk- In halo if you tk someone, you have to wait an additional 3-5 seconds after tking to respawn. It could be done so that additional tks up the wait (within reason or a set time). It's a small inconvience, but to someone who's there to cause mischeif, it'll deter them much more than say someone who accidentily tks. One or two accidental tks, you'd only wait a couple of extra seconds, no biggie. 5-6 tks and you're waiting 30s to respawn. This doesn't really addressive intentional tks, which i think should still be moderated. It should stop excessive tking though.

Similar to vote kicking- pure vote kicking would be a nuisance to the rest of the team. not to mention it could easily be abused to remove people the team just didn't like. A solution is one that they use in games like day of defeat (and maybe CS? i dont really play it): pop up a graphic after you're tk'd (during respawn) that lists a few options along the lines of:
        1. Ignore - similar to good ol "no prob"
        2. Warn - not a mod warning, but a PM that says something like "HEY STOP TKING ME"
        3. Mild action - could be something like longer respawn, freeze engines, energy depletion green
        4. Strong action - simply have the player explode, black out his screen (distension style), somehow deprize his bombs...
Either it could be a simple table pm'd to you from a bot, or ideally, it would be a lvz (?) display that showed it. IF you could simply hit 1,2,3,4, without having to pm from the display, that be even better.

other than that i just encourage everyone to report assholes who tk intentionally, and cut some slack to those who do it on accident, and apologize for it.

From my point of view, I'd rather watching those trolling TKers stay than to have a system that hinder those who's trying to learn javing. This is a system that go against every players, who all have the right to jav, and will jav.
I'm only really suggesting these changes for pure pub. Most of the people who play there are serious about basing, capturing the flag etc. There are other arenas where people can practice jav (impure pub being one of them, and ?go IwantToPracticeJav being another.)

            LIFT THE BAN ON LEVI
No way. Pure pub is pure because of the lack of levis. Theres nothing worse than an indiscriminate blue bomb blowing up friend and foe alike in the flag room to put me off basing.

Having said that, I feel that levterrs are the enemy, not levis as such. Back in the day (1999 or whenever) it was common to have a pair of levs attach into flag room to try and control the entrance - that was fun, and allowed for a more solid defense - the only real way around them as an attacker was to guide a lev up the tube to counter-bomb the flag room.

Once people learned how to lag-cheat their levterrs then it all went to pot, and levs became the general enemy and a parasite that fed off the people who really wanted to base.

Personally I think any game that allows a lopsided type of gameplay which only works by laming off other people is a losing proposition. An arena full of levterrs wouldn't work on its own, they NEED the basers, and thats just wrong.

Levs have their arena - pub0 - and they are welcome to it. Please don't bring them back into pure pub, unless theres some serious thought and action taken to prevent them becoming parasitic levterrs.

I really like this idea. Cumulative increase of a few seconds extra wait for every TK since last death... The annoyance factor would make people try not to TK, and it would also mean that particular jav wasn't in the flag room teamkilling.

I think a lot of javs don't realise when they teamkill. If they have to wait an extra 6 seconds, then they suddenly realise that great "trick shot" actually killed three of their teammates... gives them time to consider their crime :P

If increased spawn time isn't possible, how about just warping bad javs to a "sin bin" for the alloted time, immediately after they respawn? If they are prized a deplete energy every second as well, then they won't be able to attach or warp out.

This shouldn't be applied to sharks though - (most) shark teamkills aren't within the control of the shark, and depriving a freq of their shark because the enemy shark made a cunning rep would do a lot of damage to basing.

I like this idea - I didn't see it at the time (I think it was edited in a few days later).

This and the "sin bin" idea of having to wait a few extra seconds on respawn before you can play are both good, but the idea of forcing kills in other ships means the player will still be playing (whereas the sin-bin idea means the team has one less player for a few seconds).

Where the fuck did you learn to count? Its 10 seconds per

As far as the pure pub coming back to the first pub, theres the option to vote on it in both pubs. Seeing as how playing in a normal pub environment is what most people want to do, the first pub generally has more unrestricted play. The second one is where the basers congregate. Get over it

make it so javs need a certain amount of bounty to attach
Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.:fear:

Well you're new so I'm not gonna call stupid or retard etc.

The pure pub has democratic voting system: If enough people want levs you can vote and make the bot allow them and in the main public arena you can't even disallow them.

Back in the pre-purepub-era basing was rare since it took 2 "professional" hunters and a couple weasels to keep the "professional" levters in check so others could base. Even then the best of them could take pride in destroying the basing game ignoring the protectors. YES THEIR SOURCE OF PRIDE WAS DESTROYING THE GAME HUH?

However when we finally got a good basing game going on the nice people like cpt.guano for example would just do 1-2 runs against us and then notify that he's changing arenas.

While I don't agree with involving usage in a beginners arena..

Call of duty / day of defeat are great examples of why ship/class limits are important.
If everyone decides to be a sniper or rocket launcher class, it goes against the way the game was intended to be played and an unbalanced team, hence limits. Javelins are similar in that they can be very powerful, but if there are too many of them, tk's will ruin the game. Also you get people saying "NEED SPIDERS" "NEED SHARK" all the time. Those people who can't play a jav when they are limited may decide to play shark instead.

There are 6 useful ships in a basing game that are made to complement eachother and inspire teamwork. It makes sense that ship numbers should be limited in a place where you don't have a captain to balance them for you.
