For those who cant take a bit of fun in the pubs for 2 days try this ?go events and find some of the other interesting things to do

That's the thing... not everyone finds the weekend pub map fun. This one fails in particular because nearly everything looks the same. Sure, after a while you'll get the hang of it... but it's annoying in the process for those who want a quick dose of base.

Wark: The roids map is not a classic, it's just old. It's a great little map but hardly weekend pub material IMO


Anyway, as I'm about to complete this post, the only public arena with people in has a whole 9v7 going on. Not sure if this particularly small or not for this time of day (200 people online atm)... but at least they seem to be enjoying it without bitching.

Actually, it is a Classic. It pays homage to a legendary map maker.

doesn't matter if you hate him or not, that's not your judgement call to make to turn him down whenever he asks for an event, your job is to serve the population by hosting events, and when you fail to do so by hosting everything BUT what was asked for, you fail, and you fail hard

Ahh, yes, it comes down to the fact that its not necessarily what hes asking for its how. I have personally had to temporarily remove his access to eventbot due to his abuse of it. And the same thing happens when he would send ?help in an abusive manner. Our job is as you said serve the population, but we are not expected to put up with the level of abuse our dear friend Heroin Bob provides.

A side point. I have seen him request an event that has recently been hosted several. (Within the last few hours). And due to the above mentioned statement many staff refuse to overhost that event for him. I am sure there are staff who would. But he has got to find them, and learn NOT to piss them off.

I thought the new pub map was very creative, however the WB was really hard to aim (all sides looked like the front.)

And I'm sorely missing the flying saucer... the Shark could've been it!

Just because this is a special map celebrating the 30th anniversary of Atari Asteroids , doesnt mean you HAVE to go back to the old map and some point. you dont HAVE to just because this is a special. You could just leave the special up. Its a lot clearer and looks better. Just leave it this way indefinitely. You can do anything you want that makes the game better. Theres no reason to have a panic attack and think "oh no we have to go back to the original map now, its been too long with this special one, oh no!"

if people care enough to come here and complain, then they probably aren't quitting the game over this.

i know a few people who hardly play anymore who liked it a lot, one guy even called me up to ask if i played it yet and if it was a new map. It's fun but shouldn't be kept up too long. It's not that we need to always "go back" to the old map, it's that we need to not let ones like this go stagnant, because they'll lose their appeal soon enough. Just think, it could be fun to play on another weekend in a few months or so.

I like the idea of "just a gfx overhaul" in that it doesn't change the strategy for basing. People are afraid of change, and swapping the graphics doesn't change the gameplay/basing strategy. That's why things like this are fun for weekends.

However, we do need to try some new map designs with possibly multiple flag rooms or bases. These changes should possibly be voted on, or at the least tried on weekdays so as not to alienate off the strictly weekend crowd.

Just remember it's easier to live with crummy graphics for a few days than it is to live with a really annoying base design AND bad graphics.
