acidbomber and evaden were the final 2. I guess they decided to split the money.

edit: evaden won the battle tho.

look im not getting on you for not properly testing it, because thats not fair. I'm getting on you for allowing people to be 2-2 at least 20 minutes into it.

Acidbomber literally was rotating around holding ctrl in the bottom right corner for 5 minutes that I saw. Evaden was 2-2 most of the way in. You punished people for not hiding basically...

I can understand your frustration with this. Do you not think i am equally frustrated that the event i have spent 6 weeks planning dies because the bot couldnt do a 'simple' task of seperating 2 freqs into 100 each.

But In this case its in for a penny in for a pound. And however it turned out was the the course of action that we took. Again, in retrospect I should have done an elim to 3.

          Lol elim to 3???

To ten would have been a bit less random or luck based

Hiders would still win+survive, as I am trying to eliminate players to get to about 100. To 3 would give a shorter time to hide.

Im thinking as soon as that bot failure occur there was no way to save the event.

It's simple. Spec hiders like a good host should do

I agree with Izor 100% here.

The event in itself was kinda fun and good ad for the zone. Nobody can blame the staff for the technical difficulties and thats fine. GJ saving the situation and getting it going in any case.

The only problem was, like Izor said, without forcing ppl to actually engage the opposing team, it went down to "who can stand sitting in a corner/hiding/running the longest before starting to play" more than it should have.

This is not zombies, DON'T encourage ppl to hide. What should have been done is to first tell ppl in green to start fighting, then warn individual players who refuse to fight. If they still continue to hide, then just spec them and dont allow them back. It's that simple. They were warned after all. If you tell ppl thats a rule, they will follow it. Don't you spec ppl not following rules in other events too? Yes you do.

The only logic I can see behind the decision to allow hiding is if staff wants to give a pub newbie a chance to win through patience and maybe little luck in the end, opposed to having him to fight and perhaps die early, perhaps not. But as we saw, ppl who fought the enemy in general died earlier than others, making the whole event a lot less fun that it COULD have been. If you were to discourage hiding, you could have easily given everyone 10 lives or 15 with the same rules, but it would still have finished in a shorter time and would have consisted of ppl fighting eachother more and less hiding. That would be more fun to play and to spectate too. To stop ppl from hiding, you can either do it alone (the host) and keep and eye on ppl with unnaturally low deaths (is it skill in dodging or refusing to fight) and corners etc. But surely you can get a few ZH's or something to help the host with that, the event being pretty big anyway? With the few extra helpers there would be no problem to force ppl to fight.

This is a good point. There should have been a little more help and from what I hear, there should have been a lot more delineating of tasks to other staff members. 6 weeks should have given you ample time to do this.

You did well with what you could and now you can learn from your mistakes. Big events take lots of control.

Well the problem was that the event originally planned needed no such help. The bot was ready. And A lot of the staff itself was playing the event because they also wanted to win the 100$, heh. And the problem we also have is that lets say i start speccing with 100 left out of the 172, because the speccing rule wasn't enforced immediately that would not be fair as well.

Could have done an elim to 5 with 200 people and stop it after 10 minutes with everyone with 5 or more kills (even if they were eliminated) moving on to the step-elim portion of the event (this should have brought the number of people for the step-elim portion under 100.)

A strange thing happened to me in this event. My stat box froze and the only chat I could see was pub chat (no green messages.) I had no idea the game started and when I realized it did I tried to exit and re-enter but I was already out of the game.

It was a fun idea, and fun up until I realized that, even though I had survived to the last 50 or so people, there would be no step-elim.

a deathmatch is fun, but it's not a step-elim. my only beef is that we all came for one event, and were given another (the whole time thinking it would eventually revert to what we came for).

I had no intentions of winning, i just wanted to play a giant step elim that i could luck my way through for a bit. What we got was a spawnfest turned hiding drill.

I had to laugh when you spec'd bandcampgirl though, at least you stuck to spec'ing ONE person :P

If there's a next time, state that it'll either have to be postponed, or silence everyone and restate the rules. Yes, you said the rules changed, but we were in the middle of playing the game, and there was a ton of pub chat spam.

Well it crashed the bot.. Lets say we pushed. And you keep your money.

And as for "in the middle" of the game. THERE WAS NO GAME! I had to change it before the game could even run.
However that said, I get your point!

I'd like to see simpler weekend events. I rarely show up to the events anymore because I nearly always feel like I've wasted my time. They always take a long time to set up (fair enough, there are a lot of people there), but then often times either something doesn't work, the host neglects to properly monitor the game, or the host decides to change the dynamics of the game towards the end by prizing super or something else that does an equally good job of ruining fair play ( It could also be that I just have bad luck and manage to show up to the few weekend events that go wrong.

I'm not sure why I'm ranting about it now... I was concerned about the weekend events when I was on staff, but then I was just thankful that we had someone to plan and host weekend events, no matter the quality. I suppose I'm still thankful, but it would be nice if they were hosted with a little more care and efficiency. I still appreciate the effort the staff puts in to try and make things like this happen.
