I got a better idea, make Distension pay to play, and stay the fuck off TWL with that pay-to-play bullshit.

It could maybe work for a monthly weekend event..

        ROFL about distension.

Ill throw my 2 cents in like always. I feel pretty grimy takin PL's money when he does a paypal/pizza tourny, especially cause hes sitting there with PO trying so hard to keep it usually. If I threw in my own money I'd feel much better about it because at least then theres an outside chance that I'll lose my own money instead of not contributing and taking PL to the bank every tourny.

once a month (last weekend of each month) host a $5 entry tournament in ?go tournament for either 1v1 or 2v2 in jav and wb. Id sure as hell play just for the chance to win, and if not...hell its only $5! or maybe as a big multi-deathmatch instead (but dont mess it up like the step-elim the other week)

            As to TWL:

No. You realize every single "Eone33seven" player in the entire game would just stack up on one squad. Other players would see this, realize they have no chance, and not even pay the $5. You would kill TWL so fast it would die to death.

            As to Distension:

Lol. I wouldn't pay a nickel a year to play it, theres only 3 cliques in distension anymore: newbies who discover it and will soon leave because of asshole players, casual players who will play it if theres nothing else to do, and those who wouldn't miss a host for their grandmothers funeral in order to get level 3 shrap.
            Cheese!> 13 in base is enough for a 7v7

So monthly/quarterly tournaments, 1v1 or 2v2(jav/wb). The only thing this might take away from is TWEL, because it would have less meaning to it when stacked together with Paid Entry Tournaments.

                Amen!!

No one who saw how HMS ran that would pay to participate in a tourney he ran.

Since I view this game as a place to socially network with others I don't see the harm in hosting a tournament where everyone buys in, of course TWL might not be a great idea.

This reminds me of poker when all my buddies throw in $5, if someone doesn't want to play then they don't play. I figure paypal would be the obvious form for someone to collect money.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

i don't see a big problem with having a pay tournaments (aside from the usual someone stealing all the money).

Personally, I wouldn't waste my $5 against someone with a $3 connection. I'd watch the last few people, though.

I also think this will make the tournaments much, much smaller than the pizza tournys. Who's not going to play for free for a chance to win something? Throw in the catch that you have to pay $5 at the chance to win, and a good many people will balk. However, those are probably the people like me, who don't see themselves winning it anyway, and just participated for the fun of it. That won't detract from it--in fact it might make it easier to handle with less people.

I do think it'd be highly entertaining to watch a handful of people throw money into the pot and play a tourny to win it.

Since the next TWL season is far off and no one has ownership of it yet, I think it has to be said a pay-to-play system being implemented within TWL would be a bad idea. But money tournaments are always fun and draw a big crowd even if it's not paid entry. It would be interesting to see a Basing tourny for like 50$, teams of 5 split it evenly and it would be easier to manage just using a Matchbot. If anyone is interested in that I can see about funding and organizing it.

Well Kolar, why not let the tournaments fund themselves? This is a way to get people more involved into donating money for Trench Wars, I think it would be nice to see what kind of progress could be made on this game with small events like these to help fund it. Besides, it's not forcing anyone to pay to play this game, everyone goes in knowing the money is funding Trench Wars and if they don't want to pay, there are a ton of other things to do in Trench Wars that they would be doing if this event wasn't going on in the first place. I just can't see the harm in letting everyone put such a small amount of money for a bit of excitement this game rarely has.

I would just find it unfair for the funds to come from people who provide donations outside this tournament, because there is a chance they don't want this tournament to happen, or to see staff being forced to cash out players to provide the excitement. Besides, $5 is nothing for an entry fee.

Don't be so narrow minded to think this has to apply to TWL and TWL only. We can just makeup a reason to do this on it's own. Pickup Game Teams, 1v1s, 2v2s.

No I agree it's a good idea and should be tried just not in TWL. I don't want money to be an impediment to entering and participating in TWL because it is our premier league and has been based on basic ship skill, teamwork and leadership skills for so many seasons.

Of course, it is clear to keep it away from TWL. I understand the importance of pure competition in it.
