The two reasons that keep me from wanting it to be every weekend are the loss of interest that could occur from players and if you are competeing every weekend, it's $20 a month you could be spending if you don't win any tournaments for this game. Most people don't want even want to spend $5 four times a year or once a month.

Btw: There is a new post up for this, it's a bit more offical.

Personally, the "Money Tournament" is a great idea not only would it make non-donaters give to the community (Trenchwars) but it will give people something more to look for then just RANKING. I am sure that it will greatly increase zone population when other zones start hearing "YO TW HAS EVENTS WHERE YOU CAN WIN MONEY AND NOT SIT ON OUR PATHETIC ASSES ALL DAY FOR NOTHING" I guarantee it will raise zone population and make players do what I want them to do GET FUCKIN BETTER we need more competition and this will give them something to actually compete for without excuses because they are betting on themselves and therefore can't use the excuse "I didn't try". TWL obviously should be left alone but why not do it once a weekend or every other weekend its a great idea and can only benefit.

The legality of this seems fine. This is a prize pool and all players are informed before entry that 30% of their entry fee is donated to Trench Wars of their own free will to improve the zone(meaning not profit for the zone, it's just donations). If someone could confirm this, I would appreciate it.

Who is in charge of the bank that receives donations? Pure_Luck?

Okay, most all the responses to this have rounded up to:
1)Not TWL or other leagues already in place.
2)It's a good idea and should be done quarterly/monthly with jav/wb tournaments alternating and 1v1/2v2 alternating.(basing needs more thought put in for it)

Now I'd like to work for putting this into place. In order to do this I need responses from:
1)Staff(permission and to fully establish the idea).
2)Person in charge of TW Bank.
    3)Person willing to host.
4)Website management to get the word out as well as in the game.
5)Someone with full understanding on how legal this is and any laws we might want to look out for.

Tournaments should most likely start with with a 1v1 or 2v2 Warbird since that's the biggest part of the population. In worst case scenario this fails big time and it will only happen once. But if it is successful and we are willing to keep it going after the first tournament, then much more will be on the way and TW funds will get a source of steady donations.

Of course, it is clear to keep it away from TWL. I understand the importance of pure competition in it.

Besides, it's not forcing anyone to pay to play this game, everyone goes in knowing the money is funding Trench Wars and if they don't want to pay, there are a ton of other things to do in Trench Wars that they would be doing if this event wasn't going on in the first place. I just can't see the harm in letting everyone put such a small amount of money for a bit of excitement this game rarely has.

I would just find it unfair for the funds to come from people who provide donations outside this tournament, because there is a chance they don't want this tournament to happen, or to see staff being forced to cash out players to provide the excitement. Besides, $5 is nothing for an entry fee.

Don't be so narrow minded to think this has to apply to TWL and TWL only. We can just makeup a reason to do this on it's own. Pickup Game Teams, 1v1s, 2v2s.

It would be interesting to see a Basing tourny for like 50$, teams of 5 split it evenly and it would be easier to manage just using a Matchbot. If anyone is interested in that I can see about funding and organizing it.

I do think it'd be highly entertaining to watch a handful of people throw money into the pot and play a tourny to win it.

i don't see a big problem with having a pay tournaments (aside from the usual someone stealing all the money).

Personally, I wouldn't waste my $5 against someone with a $3 connection. I'd watch the last few people, though.

I also think this will make the tournaments much, much smaller than the pizza tournys. Who's not going to play for free for a chance to win something? Throw in the catch that you have to pay $5 at the chance to win, and a good many people will balk. However, those are probably the people like me, who don't see themselves winning it anyway, and just participated for the fun of it. That won't detract from it--in fact it might make it easier to handle with less people.

Since I view this game as a place to socially network with others I don't see the harm in hosting a tournament where everyone buys in, of course TWL might not be a great idea.

This reminds me of poker when all my buddies throw in $5, if someone doesn't want to play then they don't play. I figure paypal would be the obvious form for someone to collect money.

    Amen!!

No one who saw how HMS ran that would pay to participate in a tourney he ran.

So monthly/quarterly tournaments, 1v1 or 2v2(jav/wb). The only thing this might take away from is TWEL, because it would have less meaning to it when stacked together with Paid Entry Tournaments.
