  • Paid entry tournament - In the Works

Edit(4-17-09): Polls are currently running for this event, I will post them here.
    http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthread.php?t=36567 - Lag limitation
http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthread.php?t=36688 - How much would you throw in?

After discussion with head staff members(mainly Pure_Luck) it has been concluded that this tournament will happen at least once to test the waters with it. Now that it's going to happen, I plan to perfect it. Here is the tournament in a nutshell:

There will be a $5 entry fee(less than a fast food combo) for those that wish to participate. The entry fees will be pooled together and divided between the top three contenders. First place will get 40% of the pool, second place will get 20% of the pool, and third place will get 10% of the pool. The remaining 30% will be donated to Trench Wars to help improve the game, with things like, possibly, real life rewards for TWL or other leagues, such as trophies, etc. The purpose of these tournaments are to cause an increase in donations for the game you love to play and a bit of excitement for the players with actual rewards.

The initial first run will be 4 tournaments hosted over the course of a year(unless demand is more than that). First one will be a 1v1 Warbird tournament, second tournament will be 1v1 Javelin, third - 2v2 Warbird, fourth - 2v2 Javelin. Now we must keep in mind if the first tournament fails horribly, there won't be any of the following tournaments.

    Example:
    Tournament with 50 entries($250 pool)

    1st place = $100
    2nd place = $50
    3rd place = $25

    Trench Wars Donation = $75

I plan for these tournaments to be monitored as closely as possible for possible cheaters and lag abuse. Keep in mind people are lame and will try to win with some form of cheating, but hopefully it will be minimized to the best of our ability during the event(s).

Also note your $5 will contribute to making Trench Wars better, don't think of it as wasted money just because you didn't win. When the event is finalized, entries will be taken. Please realize this is not by any means a forced tournament, it's completely here for those that would like to participate.

I have opened this thread to inform everyone and hopefully receive advice from the community to make this tournament as successful as possible.

Thank you for your time and good luck!!

    -Lance

P.S.: After discussion over who the 3rd place will go to with Dameon Angell, we decided the two players who lost semi-finals would do a duel and the winner would receive the third place award.

Edit: Please post all your ideas for what the prize money should go to as well, I've heard some good ideas outside of my own while talking about it in Trench Wars.

    Edit2(4-30-09):
Tournament will most likely be hosted manually in an arena such as ?go duel over the course of a weekend(s) to keep the tournament better monitored and in control. When money is involved it's much more important to make sure it stays in control.

I had a couple drinks when I talked to you last night, did you use any of my advice? Did I give you any? Is WPE still hosting this thing?

I'm going to implement a poll for everyone to decide on who should host it. That's the only thing I got out of our conversation really, lol.

I expect the tournaments should begin after everyone is settled down from this TWEL season.

I don't expect anyone that doesn't want to play, to play . It's merely a Trench Wars fundraiser, you shouldn't feel like you are being forced to pay for this game when it's a voluntary partcipation.

I think instead of donating the money for Twl winners and such, why not use the money to improve the game, for example make the servers better and stable.

I also wanted options for customizing ships, and i dont mean banners :P, i mean like choosing a color for your ship or using decals on the ship. Im pretty sure people would love to customize their own ships and would be willing to donate for that because unlike TWL, something like this would affect everyone.
1:Rasaq> i scrub really hard with toilet paper so little pieces of it get stuck to my anus hair and then later on when im watching tv i like to pull them out slowly because it feels pretty good

1:Mutalisk> heard that n1111ga okyo got some DSLs

Paradise> No names but there's actually a black man in the arena right now.

              Jones> MAAAAN1111GA UCHIHA

Paradise> NO NAMES. NOT A SINGLE NAME.....but 3/6 of the players on Force are of a certain descent. I will not go any further.

I agree even small changes and variations to personalize our ships would be pretty cool. I don't fully understand how that could be implemented, I would assume that core programming would need to be done and it would only apply to some arenas(like elim, pub, twd arenas, etc) and that a server would need to be upgraded in order to reduce the lag caused by it as well as an option for players to turn off viewing people's personalized ships in order to reduce their own lag. But I would be in full support as this being something the tournaments fund if it is possible.

Yeah im wondering what the costs would be for this, and how it would be implemented, but if it is it will make the game more exciting to play. I agree with the turning on and off feature, itll be like the 'rolling ship' thing. For starters i think only the warbird should get this.

graphics are client based unless a special file known as .lvz is loaded into the arena settings. thus being said, your warbird can't be a different color from another's while being in the same arena.

Well I think if core programming was done to the game itself it would be possible to do this. But unfortunately that is something I don't think will be done due to the retired owners of the game.

Other funding possibilities are free to enter tournament prizes(pizza tournaments, cash prized deathmatches, etc) and it could happen more often because the staff wouldn't have to pay for them.

Please post any more ideas for what this tournament can fund or anything that would make this donation event better.

When the time comes and everything is finalized we will start taking entries. Most likely about 2 weeks prior to the event itself and we are probably going to give a month or so for TWEL tournaments to finish.

Pure_Luck will be taking the donations through paypal.

The things suggested about improving the game by changing the Continuum code almost certainly won't happen, PriitK is the only one who has the code, isn't developing it anymore and isn't giving to anyone.

Yea, that is what I'm assuming.
