your guide is missing a few things which I think are the most important, and not just for "newbs" in terms of new people, but also for people who will actually read these forums.

        1. play the fucking ship you're given. not everyone can be a fucking jav every time. if you're given a shark, don't sit there and say "I suck at shark, give me a jav". I encourage all captains to remove people who say that. (there's a difference between these guys, and people who play shark 5 games in a row and want something different).

        2. best chance for new people to get in the game is to stick around and watch after the game starts. very often if someone leaves, the cap will just ask "who wants in?" and htey'll sub the first person who says something.

        3. spiders who camp are basically worthless

        4. sharks who try to play as if they're javs hurt the team more than help it.

        5. for gods sake don't ask to be captain if you don't know whos good at what.

How about don't squadmessage the basing squads with some crappy macro when you don't have enough people. Everyone on a TWLB squad is in at least 1 basing chat, and (90+% of the time) would be there if they wanted to. Squadmessages are annoying, and the macros show exactly how little respect you have for your fellow basers.

I disagree with your sentiment there. Nobody likes playing a base game with an incompetent jav, shark, or terr on their team, and if someone that comes into ?go base without the intent of playing in one of these ships just wants to let their captain know that they'd be of better use in a different ship, I see nothing wrong with that. I suck ass at shark, but I still think it's fun to play. Thus, I'm willing to shark in base games, but just don't want to give my captain the impression that I'm a better shark than I am. Usually, caps say, "everyone okay with their ship?" and I think a lack of admission of "I suck at shark" would be doing my team a disservice. If you want to spec me because you just want a better shark and all the other ships are set, fine. But it seems like you're saying, "if you're going to complain, you shouldn't play", and that doesn't make much sense in this context.

Spiders should not be doing their own thing when there is a jav rocketting at the terrier, and then saying, stupid terr learn how to stay alive. Or trying to get in the flag room by sitting back and firing bullets at the entrance and waiting for someone to magically get in.
yeh, it's a nice idea but nobody can learn that quickly. you should play pub for a month or two, then move to baseelim, then to ?go base.

yes I know that sounds like i'm saying that base is better than jav or wb, that's down to your own opinion, but basing required the most experience to even play. You can play bad in elim, who cares, but if you play bad in base you wont get picked again.

                        baseelim? wtf is there?

Best way to get picked is to suck up to those people that are regular captains. You can still ruin their game with your total lack of skill, they won't mind as long as they like you.

?go base is lame... it looses its novelty in a matter of days

too many whiners, the spiders always camp, and its too unorganized. the caps almost always want to jav, and suck most of the time; go practice in pub before you play in go base. imo, ?go base is just like elim basing, slightly more competitive than pub, nothing like twl or twd

face, I've captained my fair share of games.. and if I'm putting someone in a ship that they suck at, or I've never seen them play it before, it's because there's nobody else to put in that spot, and I need someone to play it. They should see that as an opportunity to learn it, or if they're fairly new, an opportunity to be noticed.

it seems like the case you're talking about is where captains just don't know who should play what, and that's the fault of the person starting the bot. I've got my favorites that I pick, and when I run out of those, I fill the spots i need with people who are willing to play.
