in all my chats this has been pretty universally slated ... when i was in pub that was the feedback i got too i saw no actual positive comments and the most positive thing anyone said was that it sucks but give change a chance

Dexter worked hard on this and he was not alone. Most of the negative comments are about the ship restrictions, a fraction of the whole system and it was the only change really intrusive (with a reason behind). We will for sure work on it and read every comments to find the perfect middle.

Today I had A LOT of fun...

first I played a lot just to be able to buy super ( $5000).. and i bought it.. it was fun, I killed many people who were like "WTF"...

However then after playing some more i noticed that actually buying super is very stupid when there is FULL CHARGE at $20

I got in jav and constantly shot while buying full charges... ppl got crazy and everyone tought I was cheating....

I almost got banned.... But it was fun...

but fix it. Why is someone going to buy super if you can constantly buy full charges? It's much cheaper and if you die you won't lose it.

So I bought 35 prizes of the same item type, right? Or not?
This text is a bit confusing. The words "prizes" and "items" can confuse people.

Why not: "You can buy 4 times per life" "Each item can be bought 2 times per life"
Or maybe this isnt what this text means?

Cheese is seething with rage now that TW has once again rejected his attempt to turn Public 0 into Distension. Please don't say "our" public like you contribute anything of value to TW, you are absolutely useless. You run a shitty "zone" that you stole from a more talented coder, you create "events" where you stole tile sets that other more creative people made. The fact is you are worthless and shouldn't even be a part of twdev anyways, especially considering that nothing you have ever done has been your own original idea. Your entire reason for attempting to ever be a part of TW was because of a single event, and you left the zone after the event was gone, you are known though out many zones to be nothing but a faggot douche bag who quote "trolls hyperspace and steals events". You even attempted to lie to me about being a moderator in HZ even though that would be Steve Cheese not you. Congratulations on not only being the largest waste of space this zone has ever seen, but also trying so hard to turn TW into the Distension Zone that you could never populate because nobody enjoys talking to you much less playing in a zone that you "run" that now a whole new generation of TW knows about your douchebaggery as well as a new generation of staffers. Distension was about upgrading your ship to get a new setting (more powerful bomb, more energy, etc.)
The new pub system is about buying stuff that you can already have, and that's it. Your ship setting will stay the same.

If you can't see the difference, go troll somewhere else.

Really because I distinctly remember reading a few posts up about someone buying full charges over and over again, people being able to buy super and shields, and other such things that are obviously powerups and not ship settings. You are a good coder Arobas, but please don't do this stupid shit where you blindly decide to follow another coder even though you are wrong in the matter. I have seen that plenty of times before even though some of the coding was disastrous to this zone.

Also keep in mind that originally you had to "buy" ships like javelins ,warbirds, and weasels which is very similar to "unlocking" ships be leveling up in distension, the parts of this public change that were removed had a direct result from cheeses desire to have an active zone that was more similar to distension so he didn't have to waste any more time on his failed project.

The idea definitely has its merits in keeping things fresh, interesting for some, trying to sort out the Jav problem*, etc. etc., thanks for trying to contribute to the community. But anyway... this system is breaking the fundamental invariant of TW:

Whenever you play, you're at a level playing field with everyone else. Any advantage you have is down to skill level alone.


Are we really sure we want to do this? Once we have this system, god knows it'll be added to because once a framework is in place - that's what'll happen. The only other alternative is to pull the entire thing down.


It's one of our most attractive features - unlike RPGs, if you've lost your account, or haven't played for ages, or are just simply new - don't worry, you won't be at a disadvantage.

• A fun, fair intense 5 minute battle in FR only to be won at the end since the enemy terrier played longer than the other.
• Impromptu duels in spawn are a big part of pub, do you really want to mess with that? Allowing people to buy Full Charge, or accuse people of doing so? (Oh I have to watch their bounty now?)
• Various other stuff in the pub ecology. Everything which was fun, because it was fair.
• When someone pulls off a good move, or destroys an entire FR alone, it was because the player had skill, and skill alone. (And lag!) Kudos is out of the window now.

Bricks should have been a REALLY controversial issue, but people accepted it universally not just because it was fun and a great idea, but because everyone had it at any time. There's no real hard feelings about being bricked, because right after that - you could do it too if you wanted.


That said, I haven't yet been opposed to this idea. Like you say, this is a test and as with all tests - they aren't permanent. I'm sure you'll listen to the community after the idea has had a chance to prove itself. But just be aware, just because you're adding fun in one area of the game, you're removing fun from another area by destroying the level playing field.** You have to compensate for that, otherwise you're lowering the net appeal of the game.


*(it's not the # of Javs, it's the TKs surely? We can now pay to be an idiot jav?)

** I know you can already buy stuff with points, but that's a much rarer occurrence than what is going on now, and has proved itself already as being accepted.
