New pub money system

I believe the idea is very good. All the people that are crying about it, give some constructive advice instead of all that negative crap.
But first, consider it's not finished yet! It needs some fine tuning and that requires players to use it, try it, test it and comment on it. So stop emo-crying.

And to those that say "it ruins basing" and "it ruins TWD, how can players learn their ships now" etc.. Come on.. Think for a second.
Leviathans have always been around for 10 years. They were only recently banned from pub 0 and in those 10 years ?go base was one of the most popular arena's. Just get an anti-warp and hunt down the LT. Pub is a place to have fun and to practice things but you can't expect to become pro by just playing pub. You need to dive into the real leagues if you want to become a competitive league player.
If not, pub is just fine. And some updates/modifications are good. Keeping things the same will become boring for everyone.

That is not a path TW pub should ever go down so i've no idea why it was considered and i'd like that explained to be honest.

i mean give me full control of pub, id make changes and i'd expect a backlash but i'd be doing it for what i see is the best interest of TW i'd defend my position with reasoning and i'd probably lose becuase this game has been very similar with the occasional tweak and that's what the players like...

your argument about levs isn't valid like i've said i'll argue about the rights and wrongs of them in another thread.

Good point, but I believe that the actual constructive advice they gave was to remove the system altogether. It's like someone sticking a turd in your mouth and then them saying "Oh you don't like it? How would you like me to fine tune this turd? Some salt? The recipe is not complete yet."

I'm not saying that the system is turd, though. Far from it! I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

unfortunately, too many people that post regularly on these forums don't know how to construct an argument without attacking someone personally first.

I love how all these people who NEVER play pubs are the ones who are most up in arms about this change.

You guys didn't even wait more than 12 hours before you started lashing out at the idea. Obviously there's going to be things to work out but maybe 5 people talking in this thread really should have an opinion on what goes on in the public arenas. Why? Because they're the ones who actually play them.

The idea definitely has its merits in keeping things fresh, interesting for some, trying to sort out the Jav problem*, etc. etc., thanks for trying to contribute to the community. But anyway... this system is breaking the fundamental invariant of TW:

Whenever you play, you're at a level playing field with everyone else. Any advantage you have is down to skill level alone.


Are we really sure we want to do this? Once we have this system, god knows it'll be added to because once a framework is in place - that's what'll happen. The only other alternative is to pull the entire thing down.


It's one of our most attractive features - unlike RPGs, if you've lost your account, or haven't played for ages, or are just simply new - don't worry, you won't be at a disadvantage.

• A fun, fair intense 5 minute battle in FR only to be won at the end since the enemy terrier played longer than the other.
• Impromptu duels in spawn are a big part of pub, do you really want to mess with that? Allowing people to buy Full Charge, or accuse people of doing so? (Oh I have to watch their bounty now?)
• Various other stuff in the pub ecology. Everything which was fun, because it was fair.
• When someone pulls off a good move, or destroys an entire FR alone, it was because the player had skill, and skill alone. (And lag!) Kudos is out of the window now.

Bricks should have been a REALLY controversial issue, but people accepted it universally not just because it was fun and a great idea, but because everyone had it at any time. There's no real hard feelings about being bricked, because right after that - you could do it too if you wanted.


That said, I haven't yet been opposed to this idea. Like you say, this is a test and as with all tests - they aren't permanent. I'm sure you'll listen to the community after the idea has had a chance to prove itself. But just be aware, just because you're adding fun in one area of the game, you're removing fun from another area by destroying the level playing field.** You have to compensate for that, otherwise you're lowering the net appeal of the game.


*(it's not the # of Javs, it's the TKs surely? We can now pay to be an idiot jav?)

** I know you can already buy stuff with points, but that's a much rarer occurrence than what is going on now, and has proved itself already as being accepted.

Really because I distinctly remember reading a few posts up about someone buying full charges over and over again, people being able to buy super and shields, and other such things that are obviously powerups and not ship settings. You are a good coder Arobas, but please don't do this stupid shit where you blindly decide to follow another coder even though you are wrong in the matter. I have seen that plenty of times before even though some of the coding was disastrous to this zone.

Also keep in mind that originally you had to "buy" ships like javelins ,warbirds, and weasels which is very similar to "unlocking" ships be leveling up in distension, the parts of this public change that were removed had a direct result from cheeses desire to have an active zone that was more similar to distension so he didn't have to waste any more time on his failed project.

Distension was about upgrading your ship to get a new setting (more powerful bomb, more energy, etc.)
The new pub system is about buying stuff that you can already have, and that's it. Your ship setting will stay the same.

If you can't see the difference, go troll somewhere else.

Please don't say "our" public like you contribute anything of value to TW, you are absolutely useless. You run a shitty "zone" that you stole from a more talented coder, you create "events" where you stole tile sets that other more creative people made.
