Okay, I told myself I wasn't going to engage in this pile of rubbish, but I can't sit silently as certain values, incentives and general traditions of an institution I have had long time respect for get trashed and/or completely ignored/forgotten.

First off, the initial premise (or question) was A) why are staff useless, and B) what are they doing when they're not hosting/programming. Hosting... and programming... really? The ERs are the only ones on staff required to host events. When anyone else hosts it simply makes them better people but it definitely does not say anything more about those who do not. There are about 50 active (semi-active, whatever) staff members and about 5 of them actually do any programming at all. Hosting is important, but if you think this game would exist, or even be remembered, right now, without continuous programming support, you are being so ignorant it goes beyond absurd.

Staff's primary reason for existing at all is to keep the game safe (e.g. from cheaters) and maintain it's technical viability. Hosting is no where near as important as the aforementioned, and therefore I take offense to the very premise of this troll of a post.

Second... the people who volunteer their time to staff the game ARE VOLUNTEERS. I don't think 99% of the community have any grasp as to how much time and energy is actually put into the programming of all the shit being taken for granted in the zone. Why should everyone on staff be required to host? Time spent is still time spent so if we are banning cheaters, helping new players, organizing leagues, organizing events, managing people (etc..) then why should that be all for not if we aren't hosting on top of it?

Sure, I'll be the first to say that we need more hosting and that hosting is very important for the welfare of the zone, but it's only a grain of sand compared to all the other things equally or more important.

As a member of upper staff, it pains me to read things like that, ph, and if I had been around then I can assure you I would have done something. I wish that we were able to take every single cheater/help call and deal with them admirably, but, unfortunately, sometimes staff allow themselves to sink to the level of normal players for a while and just talk or play. We can't force people to drop anything and everything for every single cheater call.

I don't think anyone can even consider saying anything about wingy's dedication, unless it's some shithead like oranje or someone. As far as upperstaff goes, I'll go ahead and comment, since I've only seen 2 people that are on upperstaff chat respond to this thread, and I'm one of them. I was the biggest critic of upperstaffers, but theres a lot that goes on behind the scenes that I didn't know about until I got on it. There's constant work going on on upperstaff chat. Now does that mean everyone on upperstaff is super active and does a ton of work all the time? Absolutely not. Upperstaff is FAR from being perfect, but there is a lot going on that other staffers will never see, much less other players.

tl;dr you're entitled to your opinions, and there's a grain of truth in all of them (except you oranje, you're still a shit for brains), but don't assume that anyone outside of upperstaff actually knows what goes on in there.

I think it's staff's lack of logic/care when dealing with the majority of stuff that pisses most people off. I'm sure there are a lot of behind the scenes stuff that is going on, and a lot of it not so behind the scene, as WZ mentioned, but from what I see, a lot of people just do a bunch of stuff till they're <ER> or whatever's after <ER>, then totally stop once they've recieved that. Sure, you're volunteers, but if you've made a commitment, either do it or don't. Don't just sit around doing nothing (moreso with people who have the time and just don't do it), but still take the 'name' of being a staff member...

For the record, attacking the_paul in this thread was completely idiotic. It's clear the guy did a lot before when he was staff. Ph was also an awesome TWL OP.

One of things that's really bugged me is the fact that I've been proposing a legitimate idea for a good year or two, more deeply within the past few months, searching for help. In fact, I even did QUITE a few ?help calls saying "who do I need to talk to for this". Yea, I understand, once or twice, you're too busy, but by the 7th help call with no response, I was annoyed/pissed. Thankfully, one of the only staff members that I currently respect, WingZero, addressed the issue, and we're working on it as we speak.

The problem with this zone, with guys who are working with the donations, TW Site, etc. is it's a bunch of people who just like to talk. Not a lot of action is ever done. Constant talk of change, TW Site for the past 2 years (seriously, SERIOUSLY?), the project with FF that was supposed to "incorporate everything together", all that crap, and absolutely no results. Biggest example: donations. Cool, you're not "wasting dollars", but why the hell would you ask people for money when you don't have a legitimate plan A, nevermind plan B/C, for money, and raise over $5000? What type of logic is that? If you really think that's okay after all this time, you're just not fit to be handling so much money, and any responsibility with this zone. I understand staff does a lot, I, among others, appreciate that, but seriously, can you blame us? Step the hell up, stop wasting so much time on talking the talk and walk the walk.

I feel like I should give a shoutout to those running TWL/TWDT, good job. Keep it up, but look for some improvements. There's still a lot that can be done with TWL mainly (flared bring back allstar game thanks), but I feel like you're not willing enough to go outside the box. Either way, mad love

I could easily be called one of the lazy staffers in the zone from and outside perspective but I'll use myself as an example for this. Everyday I log into trenchwars to get roughly 4-5 messages about random staff things (pays to be middle of the pack in the staff world for messages). After reading the random stuff I get sent I check to see if one of the other Staff Trainers are online to see if I missed anything with any of the new guys. Once thats done, its pretty much afk eat breakfast comeback to my computer and start dealing with the random ?help how do I shoot bullets ?cheater Random person said random racial slur etc until one of the ZHs logs in wanting to host. Then its off to supervise them make sure their learning how to host events with pissing off the community by doing it incorrectly.

Now other then that stuff being the normal things daily theres hours of behind the scenes training to be done with each individual ZH + doing twdop things tracking dsing helping people register dealing with more cheater / racism calls.

Long story short just because some of us look lazy on the outside and dont host myself included since i was hosting like crazy as a ZH doesnt mean we dont help the zone were just doing alot of the backend shit that consumes most of out time online. I cant even begin to count the number of BDs and JDs Ive had to skip doing calls and training.
