    Hey so I just wanted to post more ideas that could improve this game so feel free to criticise/ adapt the ideas to ways in which the idea could work. I know some ideas are prob impossible to do given the fact that we dont have the game codes to have total control of editing.

    *Anymore ideas that I think about will be added to this list*

    PUB:

    1) update the appearance of the timer on the top right of screen. Make it more obvious, centre it (below energy bar). With the count down being more obvious, new players will clearly see that some kind of game is going on.

    Heres a picture of pub with a clearer timer and also for fun I added turrets. Would be nice if players could touch them or press a key to attach (as seen) and players can control them (like the turret on a terr when attached) Players could press another key to detach/ or have a time limit (10 secs in this case). Players attached are able to die.


    2) when a new player enters the game (new IP address), there should be a public message displayed telling everyone (not just staff) that they are completely new etc. this should prompt people to say 'welcome' 'need any help?' Etc. This could make the community look friendly and it would also be easier for the captains running new player squads to recruit them.

    3) when a new player enters, they could do with a 2-5 minute shield while they get used to the controls and they can ride into base. This prevents them quitting after being spawned to death before they can understand that there is a base match going on. When they enter, not only does a public message display telling them they are new- the message also includes them having a 2-5 minute shield to get used to the controls. The new player is informed they have a temp shield preventing them being killed and will last for only 5 mins.

    4) downloading an arena like pub: instead of displaying a ship flying while the % is going up, if possible, show what the game has to offer: either messages or pics of things like you can join a squad and play squad battles in a competition to be the best squad (while the % is going up as normal).

    5) incentive to play longer in pub? -make it so the longer a player plays on a pub freq, the more space bux they get after each round is completed and also the rewards for killing a player in flag room also goes up. A message could be displayed every 5 or so minutes telling them: your rewards have increased by $10 per each kill in flag room and $100 after each round has completed.

    6) -COMPLETED- adding Hd rocks (?go thefield)- awaiting this to be added -COMPLETED-


    7) -COMPLETED-. This will prob be impossible to do without the game codes but lets Imagen: people can log into the game from the tw website for chat and squad chat only. Would be great for those (using their phones only) who are at work or just about to finish their shopping and they tell their squad mates that they are on the way back home to jd/dd/bd so stay online. COMPLETED.

    8) If u log in u get a small reward: pub cash (once per day).*Rewards go up if u log in each day consecutively- miss a day and the rewards reset. I.e day 1= $500, next day 1k, 3rd day 2k but u fail to log in once on day 4 (rewards restart: $500)

    9). Add a mini twdd/twjd base to pub where a squad can chall the world or another squad for a match (5 lives each) for a certain amount of cash and the first 3-4 random players to type a command gets to play- the winning team gets a split of that cash. To me this idea would b awesome in alot of ways: players get a taste of twd/ squads that cant find a jd/dd can now chall the world instead of logging of/ squads are playing for cash adding to the excitement

    10). -COMPLETED- Feeling lucky? Have a small gambling area in pub- whether fruit machines/ roulette can be added idk but with the right odds, u might not have to reset space bux for ages! -COMPLETED!-

    11). Heres a very simple update: Now a guy called Goatleeker has posted some pretty sweet graphic updates that people can download. ?replace these old default graphics with these- so when another user downloads this game off the tw website- they see better looking graphics.     12) Add new % sounds to pub. The sounds could be voice messages that are coded with the tw-pubsystem bot so the public will hear them when a particular thing happens, I.e; When someone claims the flag with 1 sec remaining the % sound could say: "Amazing! flag saved with one second to go!" or (When it is one sided) "Comeone guys! Enter to make this game fair!" "Team 0 wins- weldone!" It could also say the scores or 60 seconds remaining. (when the sound lvl is created: add this to the continuum download folder so when a new player downloads the game... they also download the sound lvl/pub map so they enter pub instantly).

    13) When a new player enters pub and they go through the tutorial- part of the tutorial should give them the option to join a squad. "If your looking for competition/fun or a new experience why don't you join a squad to learn how to vs other squads (You get your own squad chat etc). Interested? type this exactly: ?help squad join. Then a staff should guide them about how to apply to play or laser.

    14) Maybe they should make it so if u tk 3 people within 1 minute something bad happens automatically without staff intervention:
    I.E: ur energy stays low for 30 seconds to prevent u firing ur weapons/ speccing u for 15-30 secs or locking TKers into a non-bombing ship for a period of time.

    15) Make room for 2 more bases in Pub (equal size to the current base). They have a flag in each (of the 3 bases). Game will start in the base where the first player makes contact with the flag.

    16) Make a current Jackpot (pubcash) in pub (visable on screen) which goes up on every kill in flagroom + how long flag is occupied flag for. Both teams can see this (and can win this). When the round is over- everyone on the winning freq gets 10% of the total money displayed. Jackpot resets to 0 when game is over. ?increase time a squad has to occupy flag for to 4 or 5 mins.

    17) Make the tws map look much better.... Look at omega-fire pub map... its wayyyy better on appearance. Do this on ASSS version of tws. Make some walls thicker/ others thinner. Add more detail. Add bridges/ pipes. Trench Wars Logo a few times (in base) + Large logo outside of base (spawn area). It doesnt matter if it can be distracting at first- if it looks nice... new players will stay here and old players will get used to it.

    18) There could be a command you type where you can view the last 10 duels results + money that won/lost. !lastduels 1)Beam vs Shaddowmere (warbird vs warbird) 2-5 for 100k. Either this idea or perhaps could be viewed on the TW-website.

    19) Every time you gain or lose any money, it is shown (as a pop up for a couple of seconds) just below your balance on the top right hand corner. So lets say i kill someone/ or win/ lose a duel/ basing king/ or someone donates me money- it will pop up (in small font) for a couple of seconds: +$350 (basing king) +$1000 if i won a duel for that amount. -$1000 if i lost it +$100 for a 5fer. This would give slightly more excitement because you can actually see the cash you are receiving so you know exactly how you got to your current bank balance. Also players would clearly see that you get more money for killing people in flagroom as opposed to killing in spawn so it could potentially make people base more (or kill more in flagroom at least).

    So im suggesting every 20-30 mins you play in pub (Without speccing/ leaving game) you get this message (or something similar):
    Tw-pub1> BONUS! Cash race for a chance to win loads of money. Type !start to play. If you don't type !start- u can always play later (ideally it should be stored so when u play another 20-30 minutes... u have the opportunity to play 2 races)

    When you type a command like !start... you are warped to the start of the lap and it tells you how much time you have to get as far as you can. (click link to see an image of the lap).




    TWD

    1) Introduce TWD squad cash to twd (prob gives more incentive to play twd). It could be that the squad gets cash, not the individual players. Money can be seen visible in the twd arenas. Squads get so much money after each round win. The amount of money the squad gets depends on their current rank vs the rank of the squad the are vsing.
    -what a squad could spend the cash on? Undecided but maybe if a squad is really desperate for an extra player, out of a select number of people (who can double squad), or maybe staff members, the squad can buy a random player for a relatively large amount of money.
    -maybe they can spend cash on different colours for the squad homepage or pay for images that go on the squad homepage to show to other squads how rich they are. Leave it to ur imagination.

    2) Update the appearance of scores so they are much clearer/ fun ?centre it.



    3) Twjd 4/ twdd4 arenas completely changed- new squad play. A squad can play 2 other squads in jd or dd in one match (2 vs 2 vs 2 or 3's). A squad (a) enters and challenges squad (b) for a game and squad b accepts. Squad A has 10 minutes to get a third squad otherwise game will b declared void.
    -map will need to be altered so that its abit bigger and squads start equally a distant apart.
    -disable firing outside base like in ?go bigsealjavs.

    4) Allow squads to challenge themselves (old idea that would be fun to include).

    5) The longer a player has been on the squad the higher they appear on the roster list. Apply this with the cap/ assistant and player list.

    6) See who's online just by looking at a squads roster- a tick symbol/circle or something similar could represent they are online now.

    7) Add hockey to twd (suggested in my thread in twd section) and have twl played in the hockey zone (hockey zone would appreciate it!)

    8) READ: special out of hour squads. Players can double squad on 4 special squads. Staff cap each squad and anyone can join. These squads are only available for 4-6 hrs a day during the dead hrs. Code it so if an assist tries to chall a squad outside these hours- it will not work. This will increase the activity during these dead hrs/ will give people incentive to log on. I don't see what could go wrong here if its added.

    9) Instead of !challengetopteams command. Have this instead: !Challengesquads 3 and this will challenge all squads who have at least 3 players online. Same could be done with 4 or 5.

    10) This should be fun: When the round is over: 1 Assistant or captain from each team can record 1 comment (1 line) to summarise the round. This comment will be seen just below each round summary on the twd website (below that kill/death stats table). The comment will also display their name so any racist comments will be looked into and that player told off. i.e (Losing team) Fork: Jesus they got so lucky its untrue! anyway we'll win the next round. (Winning team) Steadman: Man that round was so easy, fork can not jav :P next round will be no different. (Just think after losing round 1- someone may say: we will def win the next round... but they end up getting owned next round

    11) When a match is accepted- a splash image is shown of the 2 teams that are gonna battle. I.E COUGARS VS PANDORA TWJD: ROUND 1. Now if you really wanted to get creative... (if possible)- allow captains of squads to design how their squadname appears via the twd website or at a basic level- just the first letter of the squadname and the rest will be a standard font. If this isn't possible: maybe allow squads to create their squad banner that will go next to their squadname when the splash image appears. Heres how it could look (but obviously better):

    12) Add this feature to the TWD website that allowed you to see what type of range 1-4 kill it was (twjd only: bullet or bomb kill). This would be handy because it would be clear for those getting alot of round 4 kills if they were lobbing bombs/ radar shooting or actually used bullets to get them kills.

    13) The longer a player is inactive- the darker they appear on roster. Yellow dot represents they are online (idea 6):

    14). If the twd roster cap continues- heres more incentive to play twd: Make it so when a squad plays a certain number of games they get an extra spot added on the roster. I.e every 25 games played in 1 league they get 1 extra spot added. 2 weeks before twl starts- the captain has got to make the roster 25 again (make it fair on the other squads).

    15). In twjd and twdd arenas, make ship 1 a normal looking warbird/jav. Ships 2-8 will be different styled or looking wbs/javs (see post 21 on this thread to see what i mean by dif looking ships). Now these unique looking ships are locked until u play so many games. So for example, if u play 25 games u unlock ship 2, 40 games u unlock ship 3 and so on. To unlock all ships u have to play 200+ games. Now when u unlock a ship, before both teams ready the game- u can either use the normal looking jav/wb or use an unlocked ship. Ships can also be unlocked by a certain number of wins or rec. To test this idea out- could do this in twdd4/twjd4 arenas? Like? let me know.

    15) Squads can challenge the world. This means that a squad goes to any twd arena- sends in the challenge and the first 3-5 random players to type in a command get to play vs that squad. Everyone can see the challenge i.e: Juans is challenging the world for a 4 vs 4 TWJD match. Type ?go twjd and type !in to play. Means squads don't log off when other squads aren't accepting games.     16) Squads can challenge against A.I in dif modes:
    -4 vs 4 (jav/ wb) where the
    bots are heavily advantaged (more energy/ fire alot if u get near them)

    -Challenge against a BOSS... 4 players team up to try and tackle a A.I player that is very hard to kill. If we could get an energy bar above the ship to act as its health bar- brilliant. Soon as its energy is low it will spawn to a dif location where players try and hunt it down!


    17) See seperate thread: http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthread.php?44684-TWD-UNLOCK-ITEMS-SHIPS . This idea purposes that your squad has a chance of receiving various items after each twd game is played + games from squads challenging the world. Some items are fairly common but others are extremely rare. If a squad collects an item set, they inform staff and rewards are discussed with the captain. The rewards are a select number of players receiving a certain amount of spacebux tickets (from staff) depending on the set collected... which players in squad receive them? well that's for the captains to decide (unless people have a better suggestion regarding rewards + how they are given out).




    ELIM

    1)
    Add a waiting area for players to practise while waiting for a new game to start. In this pract arena- style it similar to a jav arena so javs have got abit of a chance vs wbs.

    2) Possibly display the current leaders on the elim map itself somewhere

    3) ?Elim twl where this comp starts every 6 months- so the top 40 players are invited to play 1 epic round to 10 deaths of each division. Maybe the champ gets x amount of real cash from donation fund. (If the league is started then ideally the current TWEL name for the dueling league needs to be changed to Twl- Duel and Twl- elim for elim.

    4) (old idea) Add other different style base's to elim and allow people to vote on which base to play on. (I.e it will first say: Vote which ship to play then: Vote the arena style: 1) Standard 2) Style B 3) Style C.



    DUEL

    1) Restore the old features that we used to have on the TWEL website: hot or not, current win/ lose streaks, highest number of deaths/ kills, (new) highest % of aim/ lowest.



    JAVDUEL

    1) Waiting arena for players to prac while waiting for a new game (?go javs arena)

    2) Allow captains to choose the squad names prior to adding the players: could be fun.

    3) At peak times- while picking players both caps can agree to a third squad being added and arena expands.


    Events

    1) Instead of getting staff to host events all the time- perhaps a bot could run some easy events instead (call it Eventbot). A player could request for a type of event using ?help and a member of staff would run the advert and get the eventbot to do the rest. Something like a deathmatch where the bot could have all the commands ready and would just simply type it out... like *arena welcome to deathmatch. (wait 10 seconds) *arena rules: ______ etc. (wait 1 minute) and it would manually put people on a freq/ reset scores and start the game. It would detect if someone gets 10 lives and remove that player. Add some fail safes just incase not enough people turn up or if everyone on a freq randomly leaves. Could this be possible? will put alot of strain away from staff and keeps the public happy.

    2) There is a link somewhere showing staff statistics of how many calls they have taken and how many times they have hosted. It would be cool if on the tw website- there is a link that can be clicked to display a hosting table. On this table is all the current staff and how many times they have hosted with the top position being the person who has hosted the most. Over a period of ?1 month or 3 months- the top 3 ER's and ZH's (keep in mind ER's do have an advantage of hosting) should be rewarded ?with space bux. This could provide more incentive for staff to host as they try to be in the top position.
    - Could include: Records (record amount of hosts in a month/ 3 months).

    3) Instead of trying to make a computer bot to think for itself and duel players (which is extremily hard)... instead a slightly easier task could be to try and code a bot to complete a race (as the bot doesnt have to think for itself- it will just follow a code to finish the course). Players would come to this arena and race the bot. The bot could be set a dif levels- easy/ med/ hard. People who are bored/ who find noone is doing anything can come to this arena and race a computer bot 24/7. If staff struggle to do this... a basic version of this can be made where the bot just follows a basic path while going through walls (thought it would need to move very slow to allow the player to move around the walls and catch up- the bot could move faster or slower depending on how easy the bit of the course is).

    4) This event is hosted in a arena with a small map (You can see the whole map on your screen). Have zombies style so the humans are weasles and the zombie starts off as a jav. Now the Zombie (jav) cant see anything because the weasles can be invisable and on the radar too. When a jav kills a weasle- they become a jav. Game will continue like this until there is one human remaining.

    Forums

    1) Have a new section on the forums... either for staff only or for the public. This section (maybe called 'Tws development help requests'), will be about staff or maybe anyone who is trying to improve this game to state what they are doing and to ask if anyone else could help them achieve the same goal. I.e i could request for help creating this new event but need help on the design on the map etc.

    Ideally it would be cool if there was a section somewhere that stated what each member of staff were doing to help improve this game for everyone to see... this could be short term/ long term goals and have it in dif sub sections: twd/ pub/ twl/ bots/ events/ advertising.

    Why have this???

    If someone stated what they are currently doing like: coding a specific bot to do a certain thing and someone else (outside staff or unknown they have coding experience) sees this and posts that they will help out- would be sweet. Usually what happens is people have their own goals and stuff- they dont share it and the problem is too time consuming where this way in theory could reduce the time for the idea to be implemented. This is how things should be run.

      Well if staff are looking for ideas, then there we go.

      Out of these ideas, I would love squads to play against 2 squads at the same time (even 2 vs 2 vs 2). Would b epic. Spice up Twd please

            I did something just like this a number of years ago in a zone I was working on. Players would enter the zone and be locked in spec mode where they would see a menu in the center of the screen displaying which arenas they could enter. What they didn't realize is that the warbird graphic in the pub arena they just entered had been changed to a news/help message, so when they left pub to enter any of the other arenas, instead of the warbird appearing during the download, they would see the text message that they could read while downloading.

            Unfortunately it won't work (for obvious reasons) the way TW is set up now, though it's certainly something to consider if all the zones ever consolidate into one.

            This is a small sample. It could be much larger without much of a file size.

              I think when a new player enters its probably hard to tell if they are actually new or just made an alt, I know because when im on an alt i get a lot of nice people asking me if i need help or if i want to join a squad and tell them im just on an alt. So I think thats the main issue with that. Plus id be afraid some in the community wouldnt be all that nice to any new players. I know when I first joined Sirius treated me like garbage. Some people naturally have mental issues letting them talk to completely new players might not be the wisest if the entire population got a message to new ppl.

              I love your idea about the shield. If its feasible to tune new IP's to give those shields out that would be really great in my opinion, along with tips on how to play (sort of like a WoW introductions thats step by step user friendly). 2-5min shields would be great and no threat to other peoples play for truly new people (new IP's).

              I would incentivize vairous pub efforts. For example, reward the winner of the GAME (winning a majority of the rounds) a seperate reward, thus incentivizing more competition, also incorporating these rewards for people that play the full several rounds to exclude freq hoppers.

              I would also bring costs per reward in line. $10k for a epidemic is almost 15 winning games. For people with a million pub bucks saving all the time its affordable but for people who want to actually spend, its out of reach. Tune costs a bit. Measure costs per item based on how many rounds you must win to buy one. Use common sense.

              I would NOT incentivize the leagues at this point in time until its more fair. We are just getting off the backs of a long period of time of monopolies in the leagues. Its a great idea, but i think the talent must be split up completely evenly in leagues before you can have true competition, which relies on practice, luck, skill, rather than hoarding all your roster full of proven talent.

              I think spreading up talent properly so the last place squads arent 5 wins 40 losses, versus the top being 90 wins, 20 losses. The spread is far too big and indicates monopolistic talent. If fixed, incentivize the leagues. If people dont want to play without their BFF's facerolling weaker players, let them quit, period.

              My last suggestion is help people have access to tweaks. Make bigbullets more well known. Make settings that benefit leagues more well known. There was a thread or two before but too hard to search for new players. Ie, how to eliminate backround, how to elminiate those rotating rocks in the backround and tips like that.

                Why is it that new players are so fucking stupid and can't figure anything out by themselves?

                Just make new players enter in spectator mode and let them read the ship controls and purpose of the zone first.

                  ?Go Tourny was always huge when I first started playing. Ran from Friday-Sunday. Left_Eye said he'd bring back the activity to it and never did.

                  I'd like to be able to duel my own squad, would be fun. It always comes down to, "just start up wbduel." No? Then you're forced to add other people. With private arenas you need to have a staff member manage the game for you. At least create an arena specifically for inner-squad matches with multiple maps.

                  For newer players and getting them involved more in TWD we could have TWLM? They pick players each ladder reset and at the start of TWL. They earn pub bucks for their players achievements on a weekly basis with the risk of even losing money. Newer players are given the opportunity to gamble their money with betting on a player or squad in a match on top of having their players they drafted competing throughout the week. New players get to watch and experience the competitive side of TWD while the veterans get bragging rights with a league manager player ladder. I know it would be a challenge to create a site solely on this, but I think it would be well worth the sacrifice. Copy a fantasy site and there you go.

                    Because 15 years ago you had only 4-5 MMO games. It was easier to retain players because they generally had no alternatives. Nowdays with hundreds of MMO's for free online, players really have no desire to "work at" any MMO that appears to be even slightly annoying to master.

                    I think the reason WoW was hung onto so many players initially is the simple platform, welcome tips, and general ease of play herding players towards goals.

                    TW, when I first joined, took months to even remotely understand or get use to controls. When I first started, even after 3-4 months I didnt know what Esc+A was or did. I thought there was only one pub, back then I think there were 3 or 4.

                    In an environment where the easiest games retain players, its really important to not forget that in my opinion.

                      I'm not sure we'd want to retain such players, but unfortunately, we have to take what we can get at this point. I hate people.

                      However, post #2 was right on the money, so we can discuss anything we want, as long as we remember that nothing will come of our discussions.

                        Well its good to see they have already done idea 7. They just need to work on the rest haha. I'll add some more ideas soon.

                          I'm able to do 5, 8 and 10 of the pub list fairly easily, if there are no major objections. I like the idea of a continually-rising login bonus (even if small), and while there was the argument that small bonuses to amount earned per round as long as you stay in the game might remove some incentive for pick-up-and-play pubbing, that's offset by the fact that more people would play pub for longer. #10, gambling, I've wanted to do forever. Had a poker module started, realized it's too complicated... would love to do blackjack, though. I may just start with the fruit machines because that's the easiest to create, and the easiest to guarantee odds that, uh, favor the house, heh.

                          Re: #1, while the timer isn't being changed (AFAIK), Kry is working on some graphics to replace some of the arena msgs in pub, such as "Round Start", "10 seconds to win..." and so forth. Those are extremely easy to add in via bot. Will also make it far more obvious a flag game is going on.


                          For elim, would definitely love to see an arena that lets you play while others are playing. That's a bit of code work, though. At any given time TW only has a few coders... and of those, usually only 1-2 are all that active.

                          Some good stuff in the other areas, but much of it requiring far too much work with the existing structure. I don't get paid enough for this shit. :>

                          Basically, anything that requires codework, unless you want to use some of that donation money to pay developers, don't expect it to pop up instantly. Just maintaining TW's massive number of bots and adding small features is already a far greater work load than most members of staff have to deal with. Hell, it wasn't that long ago that coders used to have to do everything normal staff do, but ALSO dev. (And then usually get overlooked for promotions, heh. A promoted dev is an unproductive dev.)

                          If you guys know any experienced coders who play and who are interested in helping out, though, have them PM somebody.

                          In the meantime I will try working on a few of these.

Will it be a bonus just on login, or each day with an hour of pubbing? Requiring them to play will prevent players from just making 2454535 accounts, logging on once, and getting a friend to transfer pubbux from time to time, and actually get people PLAYING and out of spec.

                              Yeah, agreed, a requirement to play is probably pretty much necessary to prevent a lot of abuse. (Or at least to be idle for X amount of time, so they can only do it with 1 account at a time, aside from multiclienting, which these days is pretty hard to get away with.) I know we already keep track of staff in-game pub time (and store it in the DB), so it wouldn't be too hard to track players, but without storing the time in the DB, and just use it for this kind of thing.

                              A cap would be a smart idea too, yep. Or, we could do it like some MMOs do it, where you have to log in and play a short bit to earn 1 token; you lose your tokens when you stop logging in on consecutive days, but can then buy special things with those tokens. For example 7 days might let you redeem for 5K or the like.

                              Unfortunately we don't have many special things to redeem. But we could make it so that the reward is smallish until you start logging on and playing multiple consecutive days. The cap would probably still have to be fairly low, but hey, giving out a few pubbux in exchange for people coming to pub daily for an hour a day seems like a pretty decent trade.
