Elim: lifetime rankings, or periodic cycles?

There's been talk of making the elim rankings reset on a cycle -- every 2 weeks, every month, something along those lines. Wanted to see what you guys think about this.

The ability to reset your score would probably have to be limited for this to work out, and the minimum # games required to start ranking would probably need to be reduced.

Lifetime elim stats could still be recorded and displayed.

Cursory analysis:

+ Increases competition -- you could focus on winning a particular cycle, for example. After each reset there would likely be an influx of elim players.
+ Gives new players a slightly better chance at placing/getting into the elim scene; elim players can then turn into league players (and javduel/wbduel players)

- No etched-in-stone records.
- Some people might not play as often who otherwise would (anyone in this category, would especially like to hear from you)

I could see monthly, with a pubbux bonus for top 3 or something. Give players a reason to play, other than their name on the entrance gfx. A month is pretty easy to keep track of resets also. 2 week resets would only really be beneficial if points in pub start meaning something again, and both would reset/cycle at the same time.

Anything less than 2-3 months is way too frequent and would completely ruin competition in elim. 2 week races to #1 just to have it reset? Who actually gets 350 k/d in 2 weeks anyway? You'll have 2 people ranked total at the end of each reset.

Elim is an arena where the formula worked forever til it was broken with !scorereset, removing usage requirements, and other bad ideas that ended up taking competition out of it. Just return to the old formula that worked and kept elim interesting and worth playing. Start with a 100% reset, then every 2-3 months have a soft-reset where everything besides the last 2 weeks - month is reset so that players keep their most recent games played to have some continuity in their rank and rating.
