that does sound like something which we should definitely consider, especially if we can't figure out how to fix the current vBulletin version. there is absolutely no way that our (forum) community would appreciate a full wipe or even lock of these forums. either option would result in a loss of members which in return would stain our reputation as zone staff for not caring about about our fellow players.

i heard it's possible to transfer all our forum data (post counts, user names, threads et cetera) with a free program, which is something that we should definitely consider we are going to switch away from vBulletin. i feel that it's very important for us preserve our forum history, and thus would not support starting from a clean slate while locking these forums for all eternity.

If you switch to Xenforo for forums they actually do the full move for you, you don't lose a single post or user info. Just done it on another set of forums I am on from vbulletin due to similar issues - an issue that is currently inherent with VB rather than specific forums.

If you want to save these forums, I ask you to fix the following issues:

- Posting is not working, a click on "Advanced" is necessary.
- Editing posts is not working, a move to mobile skin, which is severely limited, is required.
- Posting ends in a blank page.
- Private messages do not work.
- The structure of this forum is a total mess, there are totally empty subforums, unused ones and the news ones are full of garbage due to a lack of moderation and enforcement of forum rules.
- Stickies contain absolutely wrong or outdated and misleading information.
- VBulletin 4 will not be developed any further and none of the bugs or security issues will be fixed. An upgrade to 5 is out of the questions due to even worse bugs and security issues, which have not been fixed by the developer for months now.
- The costs for keeping VBulletin are a total waste, considering there are free alternatives.
- Maintenance of this already bugged forum code is a mess, unless you hire someone specialized on VBulletin => more costs. Even if you hire someone, their license forbids some things which would improve it.
- Registered members can not be linked to active players anymore due to the enormous amount of posts and many multi-accounts. Linking forum accounts to actual players should be desirable, not only for votes, but to allow simple signups, tech support, newsletters(registered email) and a few other nice things.

There is probably more, but that is all I could think of in a few minutes.
The traffic will still exist when posting will be disabled and these forums stay as a read-only reference. Traffic from actual players who use the forums because they work and are a clean source of information would benefit us more.

yep, i'm with you on this one.

these forums generate a lot of traffic to our game, and has way too much history to be scrapped or locked away. we should look into keeping this one, even if it costs a fair penny (heck, i would be willing to put some money towards that myself) for us.
