I won't bring up changing the server/biller anymore since that is a "future date" issue apparently until Steam is finished.

But, regarding the Steam Project: wouldn't this already be an issue?

It's almost like your main reason/worry about why we should not modify anything before Steam has already come to fruition in a very real way.

Should this be cause for any major concerns moving forward?

It's ok turban, rough actually doesn't give a shit himself, and has no clue what he is talking about, and only likes to be rude, and disrespectful. He won't do anything himself, but will leap at the thought of critisizing someone else negatively, that's just the type of person he is.

to correct the misunderstandings that you have right now:

roxxkatt is the person who wants us to have someone create a new game client and biller server to separate the ties with our current server host, Priit Kasesalu. this would mean further delays with the project, and jeopardizing the future of the two biggest zones, while likely also losing the right to our greenlight claim on Steam as we would no longer be eligible to launch under the Continuum title after all the changes.

alas, you should know by now that Priit is the one hosting some of the major zones (Trench Wars and Extreme Games), and the current biller free of charge. he actually isn't as unapproachable as people claim him to be -- granted, he's not nvolved with this, and is rather slow at responding. it's mostly a matter of weeks to get simple things done from his side of things right now, and that likely will never change. nothing prevents us from actually severing our ties with him at later date, if it's deemed necessary and if every zone and player is prepared to have a migration phase.

when that project actually finishes, and every zone decides to go through it, it means all the players have to download the new client to connect to the zones, and the zones that are hosted by Priit Kasesalu would need to find a new server host. the ETA is sometime around early-to-mid 2016, from the looks of it.

we, on the other hand, would want to launch with the current client and biller. we, in this case, means the trench wars players, some members of the subspace council, and few other upper staffers from other zones, especially from zones that use the subgame client and are hosted by Priit.

i'm not sure where you got the idea of us going on Steam alone, as that is an incorrect claim. rather, we would be launching on Steam using what we have right now, using the current biller server and client with no modifications. this would benefit the game a lot in short term, and even long term. it is truly the best path to take, and it would yield us instant results.

sadly, other zones have shown close to no interest in this project, and it is pretty clear that if we ever want anything to happen in regards to Steam, someone needs to take the first step. fact is that trench wars has been leading the charge, as poorly as we have for the past 6 months, with close to no involvement or assistance from any other zone.

spacehiker, a member of the subspace council, agreed this morning that it would be better for us to launch right now, using what we have (client, and biller) while continuing to plan for the future. thus he is of the same opinion as us, wanting to see progress rather than continuous delays and promises that are likely never to be fulfilled. this decision would not please everyone, namely three or four people working "behind the scenes" on their own project, in secrecy, but then again there isn't decision where we could please every single player and zone.

and to answer your question about trench wars council, that project died before it even got started. you should treat it as if it never happened, a failed project which happened 15 years too late.

@ rough: incorrect. we need a US person, or a US organization (non-profit), to sign the agreement with steam. i'm not a US citizen, thus i'm not eligible to actually seal the deal. anyway, keep trying with your troll attempts. you might eventually succeed.

all of which can be worked on after we take the first step, sure.

having a good quality store page, with game history and explaining what the game is about, is absolutely necessary. on a brighter not, it will not be hard to either assign someone to post announcements on steam, thus that is not going to be an issue.

i'm not going to be involved for an extended amount of time, at least for now -- as i have stated few times already, i'm not going to be around for too long, real life commitments will be taking most of my free time for the next two months.

and if that falls through, talk to cycad, hallu, numpf, freakmonger, arnk, etc to see if they know any replacements/alternatives
because being a competent zone sysop you will eventually be talking to them about steam and their involvement in the process

because a part of publicity will be having a store page description better than the one currently displayed, and other zones having the capability to release news announcements in the steam channel about things like the master of chaos paid tournaments, etc

not sure why you keep bringing up the past when it is not relevant at all.

the fact remains that i was not involved in the Steam project in any way until very recently, and thus talking about the time when i was solely focusing on improving the league scene, events, the zone and our zone staff and its departments -- the things that truly mattered, and still matter -- is a wasted effort from your part. i had no intentions of getting involved with the steam project at that time, and i was even told that i don't have to get involved to let me focus on the things that i wanted to prioritize at that time. however, given how we have been at a stalemate for way too long, it kind of forced my hand to at least try to do something. nevertheless, what i want to do is try to help this zone, and the game, before i start my extended break.

the current goal is to find a person to sign us up on Steam, whether it's done as an individual, or by creating an LLC or NPO and then having that organization to sign the digital contract. we would be using the current game client, original graphics and images on the store page and keeping the current game title when we launch. all of this could be done within a week if we had enough motivated people to give it the starting push, but the first objective is still holding everything back.

and, in the future, we can always consider switching to a new client using the new biller (or, alternatively, trench wars and extreme games can continue using the old biller, and every other zone could switch to the new one) when they are done. if trench wars decides to switch, we would need to back up all the server data and files, and find a new server host. it is something that will take a fair amount of time.

we will see if the lawyer i know in Texas will come with a favorable response, as he is a former player and a good friend of mine .. granted, he has previously stated that he doesn't want to get involved with this game anymore, but you never know .. maybe he has changed his stance and we get lucky. fingers crossed, but no promises.

pritt doesn't care much about ASSS why the fuck would he care about as3 zones?

you seem to know everything about this game yet you weren't a beta tester you never successfully owned a zone with a population so anything you say is garbage to me.

and yet through inaction you have already delayed it by half a year
you speak of "present time" and "right now" and action, but this fact remains
this began in trench wars, and you are the trench wars sysop, and for half a year you said "no im just doing twl things" and waited for 3 afk people to do something

and my point is some actions now will block future actions, especially while making uninformed unilateral decisions that exclude 80% of the playerbase
now you are saying you are willing to forgo due dilligence now because of delays caused by no action
your platform of "no action because i didnt care for 6 months but fuck talking to the other 80% of the people lets do it now" is pretty weak
according to current player counts, trench wars accounts for 80/270=30% of the ss population, assuming similar bots ratios in other zones

most games havnt been online for 20 years with nametraders, and a name wipe can only be done by priit

and if i recall, priit once threatened to block all as3 zones from ssc because he didnt make them and could result in him losing control of things, so it would be very unwise to throw everyone else under the bus to save yourself

additionally, while you were inactive, someone working for you (krynetix) signed himself up as the owner of the game and started changing graphics and icons, which is in direct violation of your unmodified client terms of service, which i will remind you will result in continuum being permanently taken off steam
