Asteroids in the game can be annoying, they roll around and sit there. Bumping into them is irritating.

Hemorroids can be annoying, they sit there. Scratching them is irritating.

Trench Wars reminds me political system and representative government.

The Administration
The TW staff represents a standing administration, being made up of public-service orientated folks who begin their careers idealistically thinking they can make a difference. Some are old and hardened from the experience but still believe in the whole thing, some have just burned out. Some are fresh faces who have yet to face the frustration and apathy that comes with the job on a daily basis. Some are ‘movers and shakers’ and actually try new ideas and represent different perspectives. Some just kiss the babies to get ‘reelected’ and hold on to the job.

The System
This system also appears to me to be somewhat ‘socialist’, the leaders are aware of public opinion but it is not a ‘majority rules’ situation. Some ‘checks and balances’ are in place, but improvements can certainly be made. There is some bloat and some pork barrel as an occasional personal agenda is fulfilled. Communications are also sometimes a problem, with the public perceptions being different from those running the show. The original ideas of the TW “founding fathers” are still present in the game, but they are buried under many layers of complexity brought on by years of growth in the game. In an effort to appease as many people as possible, a fair amount of pragmatic ‘middle-of-the-road’ approach has evolved. This sometimes comes across as a “wishy-washy” or can even be perceived as a feeble system.

The Parties
The TW leagues appear to me to be similar to a various ‘parties’ in the political system. With squads being the ‘special interest’ groups within the ‘parties’. Some squads are to the ‘left’ and some squads are to the ‘right’ but you can be sure that none of them reflect exactly how you feel. ‘Voting’ (joining a squad and league) consists of trying to decide from the least of the evils, with the best you can do being aligning yourself with those who only come kind of close to how you feel.

The Media
Forums and chats represent the media in this system. Standing for ‘free speech’, almost any opinion can be voiced but many things are not tolerated by others. The ‘media’ provides a soapbox for anyone’s opinion but much of what you see is completely unbelievable or just plain incorrect. 30 second sound bites abound and are often quoted and requited.


All in all, I would say that it all works for most of the people but remains grossly misunderstood and never given the credit it really deserves. It does much more right than wrong but it remains ‘fashionable’ to flame and criticize it to death. The ‘Administration’ works hard for little credit or value. They can most certainly find alternative ways to be paid more and glean intrinsic value in their lives than doing TW public service. The rest of us should stop taking so much for granted and show more appreciation. We should also consider the amount of time we spend bitching about things and compare it to the amount of time we have spent offering praise or support. The system is US, it is what we make it.

well here is a way that it DOESNT apply to real life: when you kill someone that isnt trying to kill you you're put in jail. When u kill your team mate in subspace (or your whole team, in the levi's case) nothing happens.
