there can be someone hosting it as well, just like trivia. And as far as the two words meaning the same thing, nockm already took my response, and if you go to www.isketch.com and play their game, it takes exact answers too and it works out fine.

nockm, you're forgetting that trivia is a matter of seconds for someone to get the right answer, the time it takes one player to "cheat" and give an other the answer is too much for the other to actualy win, someone else will get the correct answer by then... In art/pictionary a team will have alot of time to guess, and there will be plenty of time to give a friend an answer, or a clue.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll take you down to his level,
      then beat you with experience.

They called it PMS because Mad Cow Disease was taken.

How is this person going to give the answer to a friend? Given they cannot speak using subspace chat, they'll have to resort to some other method that will take some effort. I did say that cheating is easy for friends who really want to.

My final point was that I hoped that people would rather just play the damn game because it is more fun than cheating anyway.

          So what's your point?

I like this idea. To cut down on stupidity, I think the bot should have a big list of possible topics and randomly pm the artist one of them to draw. That way you'll have a standardized format and cut down on the esoteric crap.

              My points are....
              1. you are missing a few small details... No offence.
              2. I'm just trying to prevent this event idea to turn into some 'vulgar' event (lol, not sure vulgar is the right word, but it's such a good word, bow down to it!) which some won't enjoy and that might take away the whole idea of the game.
I'm just talking about my opinion when I say that some events I don't like, just because of the way they are hosted or the way the game is intended to be hosted.

By the way, I think that TW needs to manage the old staffers in a way that the programmers in them would build bots and the ones who aren't too much of programmers would work on the rest... If there will be the option to make a bot just to see how an event is working, it would encourage the making of events and the upgrading of events.
ok, I'm done, flame ahead :P

The problem would arise of a few renagade staffers programming things into their bot that would give them total control and grant them sysop power and *ufo and *super and so on. (All bots are sysops)

Cpt.Guano now programs bots, thats another on the list.

But overall bots take time to program, and we don't use C++ in bots so we can't use Catids bots. (If you don't know what I am talking about visit shanky.com/server and go to the bots section.) So having to build a bot from the core is time consuming, and staff already dedicates their time to the game, so it is in a way unrealistic to expect staffers to do so.

Don't worry, I doubt we are offending each other (:

I understand how you feel, a game could easily turn into a schlong drawing contest or a cheating thing. That would be a waste of time. I'm just saying, give it a go, maybe people will behave.

Please tell me the details I am missing, unless you told me them already.

I really doubt it that tw would use any of catid's modules... evan if they did use C++ and not java, I agree it's risky, but old staffers, are known both in real life and in trenchwars to be good people... (and besides, you could go and beat them up :P ).
hmm, I agree cpt.guano! was a risk, but it was a risk worth taking, and the risk wasn't so big because before being given this job, I'm pretty sure they checked out both his personality and his programming skills.
I'm not sure how it works in TW, but if you wanted to easily prevent the usage of bot to abuse, you could compile the files in the bot server computer, and check them for abusage tweaks, of course this would require someone to spend some time over every bot made, but it would be worth it if the bots would bring change and improvement.
It's a bit time consuming... But, the more programers there are there are more options for each programmers to help when he has time, and not be forced to keep awake every night till 5 am...

This is how the isketch game works:

Everyone takes turns drawing a picture that is pre-determined by the bot. The drawer cannot type or chat, and is not allowed to use any words in their drawing.

Everyone else has to guess what the word is in a 60-minute timeframe. The thing is, EVERYONE gets 60-seconds to guess the word, so even if someone guesses it after 2 seconds, you still have a chance to get some points. The first person to guess the word gets the most points, and for every person that guesses the word after that, the points they recieve drops. If you guess a word that is similar, but not exactly correct, the bot tells you that you're close. For example, if the word was "sunshine" and you guessed "sun", it would tell you that you're close.

As for the person drawing the picture, the more people that guess the drawer's word, the more points he/she gets. Therefore, it is in your best interest to draw the best and most clear picture of your word as possible.

Finally, the game has a vote-oriented kick/boot feature. If someone is being perverted or ruining the game, someone can start a vote to kick the person. If a certain number of people vote in favor of booting him, he is kicked automatically from the game, and can't come back for about 20 minutes.

The thing is, the way Continuum's messaging system works, it would be far too easy to cheat in this. As soon as someone got the word, they could PM it to all of their buddies. The only way you could get this to work, would be so that only the first person that get's the word gets any points. And the person that's drawing the picture would have to be completely silenced.

Of course, there are ways to cheat outside of the game, but it's not really worth the effort. A long time ago I played isketch with a friend, and when it was either of our turns to draw, we would draw something totally unrelated to our word, and ICQ the answer to each other. It was pretty hilarious how everyone was baffled how I would guess the word "schoolbus" when the drawing was a spider with a tree beside it.
