I, like about 90% of the TW population, am sick to the core of LeviTerrs in public arenas. We get a nice bit of public basing going, some dedicated people, some nice teamwork and banter, a lot of fun, and BLAM! - suddenly a load of LeviTerrs appear and vulch everyone and anyone, totally ruining the game. People leave, the pub dies, and the parasites triumph again. Sickening.
Here is my solution. I will pledge £50 (fifty pounds sterling, thats just over $80 US dollars at todays rates) to the server/bandwidth fund if TW staff will address the problem of LeviTerrs in public arenas. I have already made this offer to staff. I urge anyone else who wishes to see a solution to the LT problem to put their money where their mouth is, and let staff see what a solution is worth to us, and to the continuation of the game. Pledge some money, however much you can afford, in this thread, and let staff see what you think. PLEASE only make a pledge if you intend to pay the money when you are satisfied that the problems posed by LeviTerrs is over.
Oh, and if you want to flame me, please do it privately at YouAreAStupidIdiotAndLeviTerrsAreTheBest@Lemmin.co m rather than clogging up this serious thread.
Here begins the small print:
1) Please don't say 'go to private basing' - its not the same thing at all. Public basing is about having a laugh, making friends, low stress, high calories, bouncing off walls, going for a beer, taking as much time as you like and all those relaxed, friendly activities. Private basing is about 8 dedicated strangers fighting tooth and nail for the points against the clock, with no humour, no laughter, and lots of recrimination, blame and stress. I want some fun, not some stress.
I remember with great fondness how public basing was years ago - maybe its rose tinted corneas I am looking through, but it seemed that there was more fun, more friendship and far less by way of LeviTerrs. The occassional LT would turn up in a disorganised way every half an hour, and it was an honour to go out and see them off to defend the base. Nowadays its a chore to try and cut back the 4 or 5 LTs that spring up like weeds around a successfull base.
2) I'm not against Levis in general. I greatly respect any Levi that will try and fight up the tube in order to bomb the flag room from below, and will then participate in BASING activities. I will defend to the death, several times over, a Levi pilot that will attempt that. It represents real skill and dedication. We need more Levi pilots like that to keep trenchwars alive!
3) I am not without ideas of my own. Here are a few suggestions that might satisfy me, as regards ending The LeviTerr problem (I have no idea how practical these are to implement, or whether they would satisfy other people):
* Increase the attach bounty for Levis to 100
* Make Terriers much much slower WHEN a Leviathan is attached
* Auto-detach a leviathan once it attaches
* Greatly reduce the Leviathan recharge rate so it can't fire so often
* Reduce the blast radius of Leviathan bombs
* Implement a double-skinned base (similar to FatBase maybe?) that will reduce the effectiveness of LTs
Just a few suggestions. I'm sure the smart staff we have can think of more, and the smart TW population even more again.
So, in summary: anyone who doesn't like LeviTerrs, please pledge some money towards the server fund on the condition that action is taken to correct the gameplay problem that affects the current public arenas. Either post a message in this thread, let staff know directly, or email me EndTheLeviTerrProblem@lemmin.com to let us know. PLEASE only pledge if you intend to pay up.
Staff should be happy with this situation, I think - it will increase the server fund and work towards good of the game and the fun of the majority of players.
Oh, and on a final note, I urge any LeviTerr pilots to make their own pledges, in their own thread. If you guys can come up with more money than those who don't want LeviTerrs, I will happily concede defeat, and the server fund will be swelled by even more money, thus benefiting the game even more!
Fun flying!
