K, I stopped following the forum a while back so I dont know if this has been asked yet or if this is the right place to post it.

But wtf is happening with the routers. I heard its because that virus, those worms or something thats going around. I am just wondering when this will be solved or something. Because right now I need to hit someone like 10 times in the spider to kill him when the other person only needs like 1 or 2 hits on me. And this started right after those days the server went really crazy.. I donno if I am correct about it being the virusses. And I heard its only a couple of routers. but just asking.

I'm having the same problems as Gall, it's pretty much bs when you have to shoot someone 10 times (or more) to kill them when it only takes them like 1-2 to kill you. I dont know if this crap can be fixed but i think it needs to be looked into.

I heard of a worm that is trying to slow down network traffic in an attempt to slow or stop the spread of the worm know as Msblast.exe. I don't know if this is true or not but call your ISP and talk to them.

Edit: It wouldn't hurt to do a virus scan & adaware scan but if it's a router problem from a trace then call your ISP.

There isn't any worm that is "trying to slow down network traffic", related to the Blaster worm or not. What I think you're referring to is the Nachi worm. The Nachi worm was released shortly after Blaster became the pride and joy of every news organization's FUD campaign. Nachi basically was the "anti-Blaster"--as soon as it enters a system, it tries to delete Blaster and patch the RPC exploit that both it and Blaster came through.

The reason why Nachi itself was so "destructive" is because of it's means of replication. It scans local class-b subnets for target machines by sending an ICMP ping. The ping itself is the problem, not the bulk code of the worm. By the sheer number of infections, the network traffic generated by these ICMP discovery packets caused network slowdowns.

EDIT: None of this was meant as a shot against Kolar or anyone--I just wanted to clear it up.

i stopped the blaster worm myself by turning it's service off in admin tools :S so i must have put it to sleep. i must kick it out.

K, I have no clue what you guys talked about. and its all fun and stuff. and I dont know shit about computers. enuff to handle them. But my question was, if this is gonna go away after those worms ate eachother or dug holes or something. or does this need to be fixed by the company owning the server?

I really dont know shit about computers, but how do you call your ISP? I barely know what ISP is ( well I do, but thats all)

The automatic expiration of the Nachi worm is January 1, 2004. If people don't clean/patch their machines, the problem could theoretically continue until then.

And that's only talking about Nachi.

EDIT: There's nothing (short of shutting off users) that an ISP can do about either Blaster or Nachi once machines connected through said ISP are infected. Each infected machine must be cleaned.
