If you look carefully, those are all in the same block. Chances are he had a dynamic IP. Probably on dialup.

Ok, Distributed Denial of Service ( DDOS ) puts the D in Denial. I dont know how many times I have to explain this to people.

DDOS doesnt orginate from 1 single user, correction it does. but it doesnt, they are bots. and one person controls the bots from the safety of his own home. There is no way, to block DDOS. unless you want to dish out extra cash to change the IP address and/or host.

You will most likely find these bots from people who have visited IRC channels and clicked those spam links. its basicly a nonactive file which sometimes most anti-virus's and spyware programs dont pick up. the file just allocates the person Bandwith to attack a given target, one of these as others have said. cant do anything. Thats why the people who do this, wait to get their hands on at least 100 or so bots. ( Normally they like to get their hands on EDU servers or anything able to dish out 45mb a sec )Then they unleash them. How I know this I use to be Net Admin on DalNET, and we all know how DDOS was just drawn to it. Most of all the servers including the one I owned pulled out. Due to serverity bandwith problems.. My clients where complaining to much.

Now people say you can take legal action, its a waste of time. All they can do is contact the owners of the IP's they can see and tell them to format their system. Cause they have a Servre secruity breach which is causing harm to other's. They cant really press charges against those people, cause they arent the ones doing it cause 9 out of 10 they dont know they are. I mean anyone of you right now could be helping it along and you wouldnt even know it.

All you can do is sit and wait, or like zXer said, pull the plug. If you shutdown the server, the DDOS will just timeout, and if the bots arent monitored 24/7 they will auto shutdown.

Oh and about the IP trace, its called Proxy. Even 56K can be traced. Proxies can but if its anon forget it, your never find out who the person is.

It has to do with the billing server and the server.ini file.

You can try to connect. Download new zones> add Black Orifice > create user name > chill.

how does ddos work, this looks like a serious crime and theres probably some kind of way to get the perpetrator and notify the cops, fbi, cia, nsa whatever and get justice!!

i havent played in a year, i just got off punishment, AND NO TRENCHWARS,
