I made spacebar repels. When I talk im in safe, when i team chat i use macros.

I play in EG-style flagging zones, so i use repels all the time..for TW, default setts. Dont use repels excpt when sharking, whcih i rarely do

Yes, I can type. Once you start a line of typing it overrides any of your keysettings. The only you have with setting letters as Continuum buttons is that you can't start a line of text with those buttons unless you press enter first.

When I only have one hand I set \ to bomb, works rather good.

How abouts ` for repel? You're going to need that more urgently than attach, you've got a whole 5 seconds to find the attach key after you've died in basing

After reading the posts on this thread and a few on the linked threads to the other topics about key prefs I've come to a few conclusions:

1. Everyone uses something different.
2. Defaults are for noobs who don't know there is a better way.
3. People who have their keys set up as letter keys are those who are not very chatty in the game. Or who only talk while in spec.
4. Maybe the a good set up would be to move the steering keys to the number pad

4-Left
8-forward
6-right
5-reverse

Then maybe something like

7-Warp
9-lay portal
1-burst
3-attach??

Then I'd prbably leave my sharking keys the same at

F5-boost
F6-Repel
F7-mine
F8-Bomb

Numlock-Rockets

I think it's good to have the functions near active fingers which are ez to move and quick.
