To get known in TW you just have to show respect to people who are talented. If you respect them and talk to them civily instead of buttering them up or trying to put them down, they will talk back to you. You get to know the good players and you end up playing alot more special events with them, if you spend more time interacting with the good veteran players you will pick up on tips and tricks on how to play well. After that you will get on good squads if you get skill. So my only suggestion to you, is to watch good players play in elim/belim/base ect. And just get to know them. You will eventually just get invited and accepted into more/ better squads.
    2 time TWLD runner up.

If not a medal, cant I get a Ribbon??

Paladen is looking for a good attitude and active players primarily. They don't play in TWL, prefering the fun aspect of TWD.
Nickname has got the Paladen section right. 10$ bux for him.

I can't stress this enough. If I see a new player spamming over and over:

Newplayer121421> OMG LET ME IN I AM GOOD IN JAV
        :Matchbot:!add mattey:2
Mattey in for Freq 1 with ship 2
Newplayer121421> OMG WHY DIDNT YOU PICK ME
        Newplayer121421> WTF
        Newplayer121421> PLZ LET ME IN

It gets very annoying. ?go base is easy enough to get into. If a captain needs a sub in the middle of the game, most often they won't have time to scroll F2 and find someone they know and will simply type

Fit of Rage> who wants in?

If you say "I could spider for you" then they'll quicktype your name and you'll get your shot.

As for moving up squadwise, don't worry about becoming "elite" or whatever in a short amount of time. Just play the game and take oppertunities as they come. You'll find that having fun and making friends along the way will be the most enjoyable experiance, at least it has been for me.

PS: I'm pleased with the forum crowd for not flaming this guy into oblivion.

5:royst> i wish it was calculus

First off, once again, thank you guys. I've seen what you can do flame wise, and I feel relatively cold temperature wise. I almost have to wear a sweatshirt.

Second off, and I can't stress this enough, I didn't post this as a guide to get to an elite squad. I just don't want to belong to a newber squad that stays around for a week, says fuck it, and dissolves. All that does it turn people off from playing, including myself.

On weekends I tend to hang out at base, and I have been picked a few times. It's nice, because I don't get yelled at like many of the other newbies who sometimes try to get in. I never really say that I'm available for one ship type or another, since I'm happy to get in with whatever ship I they want me to play. Hell, I'd do weasel if it meant base time.

Now I'm trying to get a feel for the elim arena. Wish me luck.

          Thanks again.

Being new and un-noticed is kinda fun though. You can actually sit in main tube and lanc all over the blue team without being made fun of.

Theo, you did the right thing by asking. Most new people assume that vets are stuck up and won't help.

Have fun with the game, worry more about meeting people and being respectful. Worrying about going 3-10 in elim or having a massive losing rec in pub is pointless. If youre nice and cooperative, your well on your way out of newbness.

Dude. All you really have to do is play pub with Izor, Colgate, gerry, Black Kn1ght

You will get the exposure you need to join an elite squadron....
