Ram?

Ok, first of all I think I need more RAM because my comp seems to be sluggish and take ages to load, especuially when I first turn it on. Some PC games take ages to load- they play alright when loaded although they somtimes freeze up for a few seconds when a new scene or area is being loaded. I got 128MB RAM atm. How much does RAM cost? DO i need a special type of RAM for my E-machines? How much more RAM should I get?

my PC specs atm are:
Win XP
Pentium III
886 MHz
128MB RAM
3D AGP Graphics Intel Direct AGP

For normal games I'd suggest a minimum of 512 for normal use considering ram is fairly cheap nowdays. More is of course better. If you are into graphics editing, 3d modelling etc the absolute minimum is 1024 if you want to be able to do something smart.

Easier ways might be reducing the amount of applications running at the same time. Uninstaling programs you don't use, cleaning the registry with some program, scan for viruses/spyware etc and de-fragmentating your hard drive.

also the graphics card: never heard of intel's but if it's some integrated thing, it's probably not very good.

Well, judging by your CPU speed, I'd say you need regular SDRAM PC100. You're motherboard might support SDRAM PC133, but besure to check that!
Also, check the maximum DIMM size, which is probaly 512 MB, but it might be 256 MB, that's impossible to tell without your motherboard specs.

Running Windows XP with only 128 MB RAM is a fucking nightmare anyway.
Your Pc will benefit noticeably from an additional 256 or 512 MB RAM.

Read the specifications of your motherboard, or pull out a DIMM and start counting

Nailed, you need PC133 SDRAM. You most likely have a board that supports max 512 MB RAM. This is all from what you have. a CPU PIII 886 MHz means it has a freq of 133 Mhz. DONT BUY PC100 SDRAM.
512 RAM max is because you either have an Intel815i or a BX motherboard. I think you have the former. Since your CPU runs at 886 Mhz.

i doubt the "max" limit is 512mb, i would be betting on 1024mb, since my slot1 p3 600a proc + motherboard (el cheapo dfi crap) could support a max of 1024mb.

however, with the current prices of components etc, id recommend throwing that piece of junk out and buying say:

AMD Athlon-M (mobile) 1700+ (and overclock it)
some nforce-2- based motherboard be it with bult in GF4MX or buy a stand alone card.

however, if you really just want more ram, id buy a stick of 512mb, and put it in with your current 128mb, if the readout shows 640mb, i would assume that its safe to purchase another 512mb stick and throw out the 128mb one, or alternatively a 256mb stick, for a total of 896mb. (provided you have 3 dimms) and your motherboard doesnt freak out by having 3 dimms of different capacity.

Displaced, I'm almost sure Nailed has an Intel815i chipset or alike. It has max 512 MB RAM max support.
The BX chipset you most likely have since you had/have a PIII 600 can support 1024 MB RAM, but that depends on which producer you bought it from.

And prices nailed- you can pick up a 512 stick for around 60 quid. Not too much really.
