Computer Repair Assistance PLEASE

What's up guys i've been inactive from forums!

anyways..
I am trying to help a b-b-b-beautiful girl :wub: fix her Computer.

here are some details first

Monitor - hp pavilion mx50
Tower - hp pavilion xt269(something around there i will find out for sure later)

-*Turn on*
-*goes into Windows Setup*
-*Exit windows setup*
-*comes up with a blank screen which says at the top ..
"Operating System Not Found"

I got a Operating System.. put it in (XP) (she had millenium)
Now it came up with "Hard Disk Failure etc.."

I would really appreciate any assistance. Name things that may be causing it or anything!

and btw I tryed to push the F8 key while starting up so it would come up with the options -safe mode- and etc. But it didn't work! err


I will get things straight later i just needed some fast assistance right now ..!

Well it looks like the hard disk crashed. There's probably no way to fix it as far as I know, short of installing a new harddrive.

I'd suggest formating and using FDISK to again... then reinstalling.

If that doesn't work then the hardrive is probably scrap now... bin it B)

Boot from the XP cd. Then go to the recovery console and try "chkdsk /r" or possibly "fixboot" / "fixmbr". If that doesn't help then try to reinstall xp again, you can reformat the hdd with the installer. XP recently messed my file system so badly that I had to delete the partition with FDISK and create a new one to get it working. Couldn't do it with the installer because it always ended in BSOD.

Sounds like a hardware problem though. If that's the case there's nothing to do, except to buy a new hdd.

Well, I really can't get to anything. I try pushing F#s while it's starting up but it just beeps. Im going to try and get my hands on a Diagnostic Disk.

Yea Dark, I believe you are right .. I am going to most likely have to purchase a new hdd but I am trying to do everything i can before spending money :fear: lease:

happended to me one time! friends help in problems like that
1)get the hard disk outsite you're PC and put it in your computer (or another computer). (do it if you have anything imported on it)
2) reformat it.
3) install the windows

I dont know that sounds a little bit cheezy to me. Why would it be that different in my computer? .. I should be able to reformat it now. What are the magic keys? Because I've tryed almost everything! Hmm to tired cya -_-

if you put it in another computer it will just see a hdd, that alows you to pass around that F#, and so then you can format it, you can then put it back and install windows.

it can also be that the computer is to old to run some drivers in XP, that is commen, so you could try another OS

ugh yeah. when i first got this computer it came with ME (didnt know ANYTHING about computers then) and i kept getting those blue screens, errors, illegal operations, etc all the time. now i have XP though and everyone works fine

Well IceStorm, it could be that the motherboard might be too old for the proccessor you are trying to run on it. Maybe if you can give me more details on what the computer has in it, I could probably tell you every little bit thats messed up. What company, Intel Pentium III, MB for SDRam or DDRam, MHz, and tell me how large your hard drive is. Because the way you described why its not working means your computer is old for a new upgraded OS you are trying to put on.
