I doubt it, its blatantly a HDD failure.

Either the hard drive has crashed or the flatcable or powercable got loose somehow. If the HD doesn't show up in the POST it might very well not be properly connected. Check that both the power connector and IDE connector (on both the HD and the motherboard) are still firmly in place.
If they're still in place you could try and retrieve the SMART status of the HD to see what the problem is (provided ofcourse that the HD in question supports SMART).
Alternatively you could mount the HD as a slave into another computer and run some diagnostic tools that way.
If the HD no longer spins up you can take out the HD, put into a washcloth, wrap a plastic bag around it and put it into the freezer for about 4 to 5 hours. The cold will shrink the metal parts inside the HD, which will some times loosen up jammed parts. This will not fix the HD, but it will provide you with a short window of opportunity (as in a few minutes) to backup any important data still on the HD. Speed is key here, because if you allow the HD to warm up before you access it, the parts on the inside will expand and get jammed once again. This may sound like a giant load of bullcrap, but it really can work
Should only be considered as a last ditch effort though...Last edited by Fallen Angel; 11-20-2004, 12:27 PM.There's no place like 127.0.0.1

icey, are you so lazy that you won't set the questionable drive as slave and stick it in your computer to test it?
That's really the best the way to determine if it is working or not and to get any valuable data (user documents, favorites, emails) that are saved.
Get it back from those newb lab techs and stick it in your comp!
