Ok, nowdays I got new 'problem'. Well it's not real problem but it's annoying: I get Vitron's avatar instead that small 'xxx is online' circle. Now I'm wondering why..

In the URL type "about:config", a screen will pop up with a bunch of hidden options for FireFox. Look for the three options labeled (something).pipelining and right click, then "toggle"

correct me if im worng <_<

Well I backup'd the old settings and I still get the problem every once in a while but not so often as I used to. Sometimes Firefox takes 350mb of memory and it's very annoying.

i reversed whatever options were reversable, but there are some options that I don't remember the defaults for. It's not like all of them go from "yes" back to "no".

How would you go about restoring the default settings?

                Any ideas?
If I'm thinking of the same thing, it does that to me every once in a while. Usually it's just the scroll cursor catching up with what I had it do, whether it was by accident or not, such as my scroll button locking on scroll and then me moving it thinking I'd get rid of it by moving it more. ^-^

I haven't tweaked anything but installed a few neat FF plugins and I get that avatar problem. I don't know if I had it prior to installing them. But I look on the Member List on the forum and I can point to 10 avatars right away that say "SuchAndSuch's Avatar" instead of showing the image. It's not on every avatar though, just specific people.

Update: Switch, an expert forum developer, told me: (If the problem is random) it's asking for the image from the server, but it's just taking too long. So the browser says, "f**k it, I've got better things to do," and shows the alternate title for the image. <img href="http:.//blah.com/path/to/avatars/image.php" alt="DangerGirl's Avatar"> (Sounds like history class, I always have better stuff to do. :P )

Now, what's often causing the problem in vBulletin, is that the script that calls the user's avatar from the database is overworked.. too many calls, a database problem, etc. The root cause can be a number of things.

--Switch says that without seeing it for himself, he's 99% sure the above is correct.

Oh, and I just told him about the Firefox speed tweak you guys are talking about, and he busted out laughing. He says it actually makes the problem worse for everyone else and "by making it connect more, you can get info faster...but it can hurt the server in the end."

                    Heheh.. you bandits.

He says there's little to none that can be done about the avatar problem. But he has heard some people say changing browser.display.show_image_placeholders to false can help...but he hasn't tested it and personally doesn't know exactly how that would help...it's just the placeholder.

So yeah, try at your own risk and don't sue me. :P

i went to "about:config" and clicked "reset" on all of the things that were bold. i think this messes up your plugins, but at least it fixes it

You only need to reset all the pipelining information.
