A heck of a problem :/

Hello everyone,
At first I wanted to run Continuum on Linux. Then I asked one staffer and he said that it was impossible. Then I asked Kolar and he said that I have to download a Windows simulator for Linux and then run Continuum on it. I looked at some sites, I found some simulators, but I don't err well know how would I run Continuum with that. Does anyone know where I can download a --->free<--- Windows Simulators for Linux, and explain to me how to work with them, because I need to run Continuum when I'm on my other system, Linux.

You could try Bochs http://bochs.sourceforge.net/getcurrent.html but I have no idea if that emulates enough components to make Continuum playable. I've never heard of anyone getting the game to work under Linux with any kind of emulator. If you do find a way, it probably won't run at any acceptable speed. I can't give you instructions on how to get it to work (and I don't think anyone will).

I think you might have better luck installing Windows on your other machine and setting up a dualboot menu so you can pick between Linux and Windows.

Well, it's the thing I have. I have this menu where I choose what system should I run. I have 2 systems on the same machine. I still would like to have Continuum or at least chats on Linux since I'm on that system almost as long as I'm on Windows. B)

Well running windows on Linux is a bit of a suckage even with a powerfull machine! A good windows emulator for Linux is VMWare i've had it running on a pc and i know it works great but only for messing around with the desktop and doing stuff that dont require your cpu attention... i can only think that it's very difficult or maybe impossible to run continuum or any graphics demanding application in a emulated environment, even if you run continuum the best you can get is get windowed and chat. The reason for that is that you really dont have the windows kernel running and doing all those fast calculations needed! You have a linux kernel emulating a windows kernel in a software based environment <_< so it can't be fast as you are doing kernel opperations that are supposed to be fast at the speed you would do any other software... even with if you get them in a top priority you would steel need to run linux under that and in all linux destributions i know (except the failed attempts to turn linux in a real time OS) you can't have a higher priority then a kernel process so... no! If you want to play continuum on that machine install windows in a small partition like stab said it's the most effecient way. The only possible way to do a good emulation for windows would be if Bill Gates would allow the Freeware comunity to have access to the kernel code of windows, untill then emulating windows is just spending the resources of your PC Processor for nothing!

PS: On a sidenote i think you can run continuum on a emulated windows environment as long as you keep it windowed and only chat in it although im not 100% sure!

Yes i know you can chat in windowed but can you play? if you can, tell me how because i also have vmware but can't play in it <_< !

A free chat client that works on linux without emulation is
chatnet
(just use the ASSS test server its connected to the same billingserver as tw)

The pc where i have installed Ubuntu is not the fastest machine the distribution i had on it when i tried to run it was Debian though wich is similar. The thing is i dont think that machine is fast enough to run it even at 800x600. When i want to play continuum i do it in my laptop but it would be nice to have a way to run continuum on linux... and then on X-BOX i heard some time ago that 2d wanted to make continuum run in Java :greedy: i dont know if he is working on it but i doubt it

But what if you prefer your linux distribution over windows ?
Doubt "normal ppl" like to dual boot...

Oh if I remember correctly, you will get an error while trying to run continuum in fullscreen mode inside vmware.
If you set continuum to "windowed" mode you wont get this error.

I can't play with it at all, but I don't get any errors running it full screen. My machine is old though, dunno how'd it run on 3ghz

Most important: you CAN run and play Continuum on Linux. (Ok, I still haven't tried it myself, but I've heard lnx plays it on Linux.) You will need a pretty good computer to get good fps though. fantus, how good is your computer?

VMWare is not techically a windows emulator. It's a x86 computer emulator. If you want to run windows on it, you have to have a Windows cd and you have to install it like on any computer.

I don't know about Continuum on bochs, but I wouldn't be too hopeful.

And just in case someone is wondering, you can NOT run Continuum on Wine or Cedega etc.
