You are very likely behind a firewall, sorry. There was a thread a few months back for the IPs so you can manually add zones but if they block those ips/ports then there isn't too much you can do. It is their network.

Edit: Link to Stabwound's post on this very topic:

First is the bad news, second is the possible good news.

People who are rather more than six feet tall and nearly as broad across the shoulders often have uneventful journeys. People jump out at them from behind rocks then say things like, "Oh. Sorry. I thought you were someone else."

Email your IT Services and ask them to open UDP ports 5400 and 5401. Be honest with your reasoning, just say it's a gaming request.

I did this at Soton, at first I thought it hadn't worked, but I finally got an email a couple of weeks ago saying the ports had been opened. Unfortunately it was a year too late, I am now in a house with friends and can play fine anyway ;P.

If anyone here goes to Soton uni, you have me to thank that you can play TW from a Hall's connection.
USS Banana after years of superior jav play has amassed 17999 kills, he is 1 kill away from 18k, Type ?go Javs FOR A GAME OF HUNT (no scorereset) -Kim

This link is good click on it and scroll down

You could tell the retards at the IT department that in most modern filesharing software you can specify any port you want. port 80 (http) for example is often used when other ports are blocked.

If they want to stop filesharing they should invest in a proper firewall with state inspection that looks at the content of the packets rather than the port number.

Another option (albiet is complex) is to set up a vpn with a computer outsite the university network and play though that.

Or u can try this free program that does redirects ports.

          http://www.foundstone.com/index.htm?...desc/fpipe.htm

(download link at bottom of page) Have a play - mit not work tho :P You will need to use udp mode i think.

Another option is to write a program that runs on a remote website to redirect the packets sent to one port to another.

Hey guys, long time no see/speaky, mainly because I'm having the same problems as Dealt. However, I did request they open port 5400 (UDP) which they promptly did (one of the networking guys used to play TW and understands  ) but it still didnt work

I've just asked them to open ports 5400 - 5409 (UDP) which will probs be done for me by tomorrow so hopefully it will work, but I'm not too sure as it didn't last time.

            Any ideas?!?

            Thanks alot

            Your friendly neighbourhood Nigel

5400 UDP is the only port you need to have open to connect to TW. However, opening this port won't let you download new zone listings or anything that.
