I have had several different versions of Vista on my computer over the last 2 years.. I know a devolper who receives the updated versions from Microsoft every so often. Unfortunately the only screenshot I have of it doesn't show much but the desktop. I had a bunch more screen shots of all the functions, but I've formatted my computer several times over since then... and this one I found in my gmail account. I had to shrink it like crazy so it would upload. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4782/win0py.png
Hey Fidel...do you like the new OS? What improvements do you really like?
Also, does it come with more choices to customize your desktop? (eg: themes, icons, sound files, etc...)
Yeah man, to be honest i'm too chicken shit to take the risk of building my own machine. I wouldn't have the patience to deal with it if something went wrong. I'm far happier just buying a pre-build shitlet off a reliable company. I've been using an eMachines 570 for about 3 years now, haven't had a single problem. I'd have no hesitation about buying from them again.
Edit: and i'm running the latest 3d games off my GeForce4MX !!!
Hmm, I dunno if it requires that much patience. I really have never encountered any frustrating problems with the 2 complete systems I've built.
It's far easier than it sounds. Nowadays, everything is pretty much plug and play---and with all the message boards around, you can quickly troubleshoot just about everything. Just be sure to research the product compatibility and possible driver quirks before you buy anything, and you will be fine.
Yea, I used StyleXP and I hated all the extra crap that came with it. All I wanted were a few extra icons and a couple extra theme choices.
So I formatted and sorted through all the free downloadables at Microsoft's website and dl'd just about every extra free theme I saw offered. Now I use icons from 3 different themes: Royale theme for my desktop, The My Computer icon from Quebec, the Recycle Bin icon from the Nature theme, and for My Docs, I use one of the icons that comes bundled into XP.
It's the first time I've actually been happy with the appearance of my desktop---and I don't even have to worry about the extra 3rd party bullshit from somewhere else.
You can use shell themes you know. All you have to do is patch your uxtheme.dll in windows, and then go to sites like belchfire.net (there are others i'm not remembering atm) and download their themes. No software needed, just your good old desktop > right click > properties > appearance.
Apparently, there will be 6 versions offered to the public, including a budget "starter" edition. It's being marketed as a low-cost entry version, but who knows what that means---"low cost" is a vague and relative term.
Some of the announced changes will be to basic style, new functions, and added security.
For example, there will be a new sidebar added to the desktop, and the folders will look like "glass panes" so you can see the contents, and an overall look ot translucence---but I have heard a rumor that they might only offer that in the deluxe editions.
Yes, that's right...there will be 6 editions of Vista released. 3 for business and 3 for home users. Microsoft has also said they would be releasing a cheaper "starter edition" if you just want a scaled down version of Vista. However, no estimated price ranges have been released so far.
