  • DVD Ripping Program?

Is there a free DVD program somewhere? I'm looking for something that'll turn my DVDs into MPEG files so that I can put them onto my iPod. Any ideas?

videos have to be in an mp4 format to put them on your iPod. you can download a converter, or just dl them in the correct format off of limewire or whatever

        http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/index.htm

this is a freeware media converter, it can take from and convert too many different filetypes including mpeg-4

        as for dvd ripper,
        i use DVD Shrink 3.2
i think this was a legal freeware program but becuase it could bypass copyright protection some big company bought the rights to it and changed the license so it is now illegal to distrubute it

Oh... are you sure iPods aren't compatible with MPEG? I don't have a video yet; I just ordered one so I'm not sure what all is compatible and what isn't. I thought I read somewhere that MPEG worked, though... doh...

Well I guess I'll just be on the lookout for other programs. I'll see if I can find that DVD Shrink though.

          Thanks much.

Edit: I was able to find a copy of DVD Shrink (it's free, but you have to search for a copy of it, since dvdshrink.org can't host a copy) and got the MediaCoder program from SF. I'll throw a DVD in and give ripping and converting a shot in the next couple of days. Thanks again for the help.

              np

i'm pretty newb at these things and that media coder had way to many options , but if you go to their forums they have some ppl who've put user guides which is usefull, then you can tweak them. I was trying to convert avi's to MPEG-2 and was happy with it

but i'm sure there are guys here with way more tech knowledge than me who got better programs

i liked these cuase they were free and did what i wanted them too, but i wasn't looking at ipods :turned:

Thay play .mp4 MPEGs, not .mpg's or .mpeg's.

That's the main reason I didn't touch the video iPod. that and the battery life.
