  • USB Driver Question

I bought a digital video camera today and I installed the drivers that go along with the various functions of the camera, which I need to connect via a USB port. The drivers installed fine, yet when I plug up the usb cable, it doesn't recognize the cable and thus, doesn't recognize my camera.

This has happened before with my thumb drive, I can install the driver for it (2 GB usb thumb drive), yet when I hook it up, my computer doesn't recognize it. What's odd is that my usb mouse and pen tablet both hook up to my usb ports fine, the same ports I've been trying to use the thumb drive and camera on.

I installed the driver for my pen tablet in August of 2004, which was after I got the usb mouse. I also installed my scanner which used a USB port, but it doesn't work anymore. What I'm trying to say is that everything I've tried to use via USB after my pen tablet/ scanner (aka 2004) hasn't worked, and I'd like to get them working.

My mobo is an Aopen AXG4 or AXG4-N, if that helps at all. I was thinking I'd need to reinstall the usb drivers but why does my mobo recognize my mouse and tablet, but not anything else? Obviously the drivers aren't totally fucked if it recognizes those two things, right?

The CD that came with my mobo which has all my drivers on it is slightly confusing when it comes to installing the USB driver as well, the main thing it shows me is a guide on how to install them after enabling the USB 2.0, but it doesn't tell me how to enable that shit in the first place.

    * Windows XP Installation Guide

    ***********************************************
Installing Driver in Existing Windows XP System
    ***********************************************

Please follow these directions for a smooth installation of the USB 2.0 package.

After enabling the USB 2.0, Windows XP setup will show a "Found New Hardware" dialog box.
Under Windows XP, "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" will be displayed.

    1. Click on "Next," and from the generated list box, choose "Install from a list or special
    location (Advanced)", click "Next"
    2. Click on "Next," and from the generated choices, choose "Include this location in the
    search:"
    3. Insert the Bonus CD in CD-ROM.
    4. Type "[CD-ROM]:\Driver\Intel\USB2.0\WinXP" in the text box that appears.
    5. Click on "Next." A message informing you that Windows XP has found "Intel PCI to USB
    Enhanced Host Controller" should appear.
    6. When the New Hardware Wizard has finished installing the USB driver, click on "Finish"
    7. Open [CD-ROM]:\Driver\Intel\USB2.0\WinXP\QFE and install "Q312370_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe"
Help please, I want to upload my videos/pictures to my computer, along with transfer songs to my camera =(
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

It sounds like the camera is using USB 2.0 and your PC is only handling USB 1.1

Open Device Manager and then plug in camera, see if the PC enumerates it (if Device Manager refreshes and then lists the new device found). If it enumerates it but does not indentify it correctly, then it is most likely a driver issue.

And whatever you do, do NOT go buy a Mac.

thats quite possble eph, its kinda 50\50 though cause when i plug in usb2 dvd burner all it sez is "this device can perform faster on a usb 2.0 port, to view available ports ect ect.

now when you plug it in EXACTLY what does it say in the lil pop up on ur system tray?

and yes your usb drivers are fine if it finds other usb stuff

It's weird, it worked once. I had the driver installed and restarted, and I installed some of the other programs, but didn't restart and plugged it up- it worked, but asked me to restart. I put some mp3's on there and transfered one of my videos from the camera to my comp, then restarted. When I plugged it up again, it didn't recognize my camera.

I uninstalled everything from the cd (including the driver), and re-installed it. No go. I deleted the mp3's off my camera, and still no go. I already have service pack 2, when I went to the microsoft site i got some more updates but they haven't fixed the problem either.

          Ideas?

And for those wondering, my camera -

          -can play/store mp3's
-take digital pics up to 8 megapixels (set for 5 atm)
          -record video
          -record audio

EDIT- I went to the camera's site and downloaded the driver for my camera there, but it was the same as hte one on the cd (go figure). I tried to update the driver via hardware manager and when I clicked on the option to install from a specific direction, it asked me if I wanted to include this location in the search-

          E:\Driver\Intel\USB2.0\WINXP

I had it search (it's the cd drive with the camera cd) but it didn't find any updated driver. Because it asked that though, do you think it does have to do with my USB 2.0, and it not working correctly?

could be.... try uninstalling cam software and then deleting registry entries for it manually. start. run, regedit. hkey_local_machine then software i believe. that path may b wrong cause i didnt actually look, but u get the idea
