If some large game images are appearing corrupted, for example the circle in balanceout. Go to Control Panel -> DirectX -> DirectDraw -> Advanced Settings and check "Disable Wide Surface (DX7-)". That should do it.
Changing colors to 16-bit can also work, but that's inconvenient.
You can also go to Advanced Options in Continuum and check the items that are corrupted (ie. Ships for balanceout, or Level Objects for lvz images). Or check Software Emulation which is similar to checking every item. But this method disable hardware acceleration and can drop your framerate.
