Why does my computer run ANY game like crap.

Upgrade to Windows 7 ? Win 7 is beta and is no longer an open beta test.

No probs using Vista Business on my system...although I have two XP Pro systems networked with this sytem that solve the problems that Vista never solved, such as flatbed scanner drivers and a few other things.

Money is head on though...don't reformat, try to see what's up...when you start the game and it boggs down, have you gone to the task manager and taken a look to see what is using all your resources?

A diagnostic tool is fine when a computer is idle, but if... for example you are running SS and it then slows down to a crawl...hit your task manager at that point and see what the hell is hogging the system up, be it an application, processes or are you on a network hub? Your not running any torrents?

Knowing that this is a laptop, well I wouldn't use a laptop for playing games.

As for Vista being shit...I dunno, my home system will eat and spit out my XP systems in a flash.

defrag is taking awhile, but I finished the disk cleanup. I use avast virus protection I downloaded it just yesterday before that I had an expired norton program. I think there might be a problem, when I run pso the cpu will jump up to over 90%. Other then that I'm just waiting on the defrag to finish before i run another test.

Or it could be because you are trying to run Vista at all.

I have a Hp Pavillion DV2000, and I have Vista running on it. And everything runs fine for me. I honestly don't see why people don't like vista =/

hey cleve u should uninstall avast, then get a registry cleaner i have a goodone i can send u that is cracked with NO viruses i promise that and after it cleans that up and defrags ur reg and u reboot i bet u it will run better then u can put avast back on and it should be fine

when u started the defrag did u do analyze first and was there alot of red?

The first thing you have to do with a plain laptop is reinstall Windows to strip it down from all the crap they have put on it.
Especially Norton. Get a lightweight virus scanner instead.
With most of the laptops you are screwed anyway, they will fall apart after two years. If they don't deprogram themselves..

Again thanks to all of you and yes I would like that registry cleaner. I got rid of norton and a bunch of stupid HP programs that came with the laptop as well.
