  • Something like ploss

Make my story short ... I got my adsl today, installed it myself. Then download Kazaa, a program I have never used before. But guess what .. instead of getting better ploss, the ploss becomes worse.

0.6% ploss, TW experience is more like a sequence of screenshots, there was no continuity. There were times my screen freezed for a whole sec. And I am pretty sure Kazaa was NOT on, not even in the background.

Personally I don't think its ADSL's problem, because I downloaded stuff (mp3s) and specced the amount of data downloaded per sec, it looked normal.

And I am pretty confidently say it is not TW server's problem either.

Can someone help me out here? Why the heck I got better connection yet worse ploss?

Since it is running like a slide show it's probably because your computer can't handle the connection, I'm pretty sure I seen somewhere you need at least 300 MHz for that type of connection to run right. Either that or you got the real kazaa and not the one without the spy ware. Try control+alt+delete and closing and closing as many things as you can, since kazaa comes with like 4 programs that run in the background and slow you down. I'd suggest you remove that version and delete all the extra programs (do a search for the name of the extra programs you see in task manager to find them) and download kazaa lite. Go to http://www.kazaalite.tk/ This version comes with no extra stuff, loads faster and downloads faster.

My computer can't handle high speed for games, I used to be in Toronto and I would get 30 ping with 40-50% ploss, now I have to use 33k dialup and I get 220-300 ping with 0 or 0.1 ploss 95% of the time. (I was just down visiting and my friend gave me this computer since it is slightly better then mine and I am too cheap to buy a new one, I live in an area with only dialup.)

Kazaa could have been running in the back ground. It also comes with a ton of adware. Clt Alt Delete and goto process (for XP not sure for 9x) look for something that says Kazaa.kpp. End the process. I would also download Kazaa lite/K++ its way faster in finding files and comes with no spyware. Get Adaware aswell and do a scan to remove the Kazaa junk.

            Kazaa lite is at: www.kazaalite.tk

            and Adaware:

            http://download.com.com/3001-2144-10214379.html

You should also do a weekly virus scan.

As for the connection handling, I ve seen people use ethernet on old J6s. If you are using software for you internet connection (like how AOL's software has to run while on the net) then there might be a conflict with your computer's system resources but I don't think it's a problem here.

Edit: Do a trace from the main window of Continuum to TW. See if there are any router problems. If this problem presists contact your ISP.

Heh heh, thanks for the feed back.

I did a test today and connected to the SS using my old 56k modem, I still get the same screen freezing problem.

So I think I solve the porblem here: I ran out ram and with all the processes running on the back ground, it slowed the system down heaps.

Again, thanks for the feed back I will let you know if I have got rid of the problem by plug in more rams.

Packetloss wouldn't affect that at all. And besides, with 0.6% ploss you wouldn't even notice a difference.

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and close everything that you don't use. It's simpler to do with Windows9x...
