Caps would need to have players in that they trust to do what they're supposed to. If there are intersquad problems with people doing their own thing then that would be their responsibility to deal with. Caps could probably still have the power to sub someone out if they're being a problem.

Any staffers know if it's possible to have an arena lock players in spec and players in game, but the players in game still be free to change ships?

I'm quite certain it's not possible to do without a bot.
There's already a slightly buggy module for shiprestrictions in the TWBots.
The starcon bot works exactly like a bot for this type of basing would do though, except it only has restrictions for "motherhip".
Edit: Ok, maybe not exactly, but you get the ideaLast edited by Malladrin; 04-23-2004, 04:44 PM.

Have the bot work like that Starcon one did (just pm it !sc 2) or whatever. I suggest only a cap can change a person still, but has as many changes as possible. I really like this isdea, and would love to see it, even if i never will. The only TWO TIME TWLJ All-Star and TWLB All-Star who never played a game.

I'll be the first to say that this is crazy and will never work- especially in a place like ?go base. Maybe if the game used this system from the start, but to give the people freedom to pick their own ships now would suck. There are not many people that you could trust not to screw with their ships.sdg

It sounds very good, but it should be squadbased. I tell you, even if I pub with my squad I have problems with our lineup because everyone always wants to be jav.
If you give people this freedom you really challenge their teamplay, and thus would be really interesting to play this. You have to communicate, if someone says "We need a jav" you don't want the entire team to change into jav, but you would have find a way changes will go in harmony.
The bots can already limit amount of ships in an arena, so that wouldn't be a problem, locking the arena would be.
The only thing that you would need is a bot that register the players that are in, and then have an arena with a maximum of 8 players per team. So you wouldn't have to lock the arena. If a player lags out, and some "newbie" steals the spot of the player that lagged out, the bot should read that and remove him.
When you get these settings it wouldn't be too hard to get some basingsquads to play eachother this way, and then work from there. You ate some priest porridge

I'm quite certain Arrogance meant this to be squadbased. But if this would be introduced and played for some time I think people would learn how to play it, and not be retarded about it, and then fit for arenas like ?go base. Maybe I'm too naïve...

maybe a cap could set ship parameters for his own team.
for example if you were playing 5 spiders, and you needed to break cram, it'd make sense to change yourself into a jav if you were spider, but it'd suck if everyone did it. so a cap could set !javs=1 or something
just a thought.
but this sounds like a really great idea.

I agree, this does sound like a good idea. Kind of like a pub-style competitive basing. I really love the idea that when different situations occur (crams, FR battles, Terr downs) people could switch to a better ship for the situation. This would be very strategic, and could add a whole new element to basing.I AM NOT AN ANIMAL
