  • Add !notplaying to TWD

TWBD is a haven for afkers, and it would be nice if we could sort them. Maybe not even have a separate freq, to encourage spec chat, but a command to matchbot that puts you on a !notplaying list. It would make finding borrows a lot easier and maybe even encourage more games?

      Agree.

to deal with people who don't use !np we could also have !afk from pub which sets them to !np if they fail the challenge code.

rEnZi is out. 17 kills 10 deaths. 2 players remain.

To confirm how this would work, !np would auto-decline any borrow? Is there any other functionality needed?
"You're a gentleman," they used to say to him. "You shouldn't have gone murdering people with a hatchet; that's no occupation for a gentleman."

Yeah exactly qan, like it would decline at the point a cap typed !b <player> saying they're notplaying.

Maybe a !nplist function that would list all the notplaying players would be helpful too.

And for what it's worth, that's for your continued support of the zone.

!np and !nplist are in, will be available next TWD reboot. They're not in !help at the moment. (Want to make sure it works fine first.)

qan Is there anyway to set up players idle for x amount of time get put into an AFK freq? Some way to know who is actually there and who is idle would make it a lot easier to judge weather enough people are available for borrows for matches or not during non-peak hours.

How about attack it from the other angle, add an !available:X, Y, Z command to show your availability and ship for basing.

                    E.g. In TWDB: !available 3,5,8

It expires when you leave the arena or set !Np.

Captains/assistants can then do a !borrow which would then show the list of players and what ship. TWDD and TWJD would be easier due to not needing the ship number.

                    E.g. In TWDB as (A) : !borrow

                    Name | Terr | Shark | Spid
                    Kassius | - | - | Yes |
                    Qan | Yes | - | - |
                    Nowon | Yes | Yes | Yes |

You could also expand this with

                    !borrow terr
                    !borrow spid
                    !borrow shark

Which would borrow the person who's been available for the longest automatically. Might help some of the newer players get games in less competitive matches?

Kassius' thing already happens unofficially by people typing "borrow" in chat. Sometimes you get missed due to the amount of green messages, but it mostly works. I don't think it's necessary to build anything, using the chat is good enough.

I think the point of this thread is when games are accepted thinking there's going to be people available to borrow (because there's people present) but then it turns out they're all afk. People who go afk aren't going to use the !np command, so any solution has to be something done to them not by them, whether that's !afkcheck, !np them, move them to ?go afk, disconnect them, or something else.

                        how about !idle

Show idle times of players in spec?

Borrowing is still evolving. Seems like there's a more elegant solution here.

Getting idle timers on our old-style subgame2 server is a matter of sending a lot of commands and checking their return spam. Sort of annoying to code, especially if doing it for more than 1 player. (Our bots impersonate staffers, basically.)

One variable we have easy access to is the time their player record for the arena was created. This might be a somewhat reliable indicator of whether or not they'll play. So if they've been in the arena for 8 hours, they're probably idle. But if we displayed this info, players would be wondering, well, why don't we just show the idle timer instead?

There's a module already written that checks the idle timer of a single player. Possibly could be enabled for player use in TWD arenas. But then you'd be manually checking a lot of people.

I'd really prefer not to move people to a new freq if possible. One reason some people may idle is to read backchat. Though it would be possible to echo all spectator chat to an idle freq.
"You're a gentleman," they used to say to him. "You shouldn't have gone murdering people with a hatchet; that's no occupation for a gentleman."

You can easily manually check with %tickname, not that hard with macro.
