I dont know how other people feel about "eats" but I gotta say, I get tired of hearing people complain about them. Here is why I think its silly to complain about eats:
    1) Half the time it isnt even really and eat, the bullet hits, and registers, but doesnt do lethal damage. This can only mean either the programming is bunk or its an intentional damage reduction algorythm that can 'randomly' occur, like a dud nade or something.
    2) EVERYONE EATS! Yes you may see some guy lagging around, seemingly eating a bunch, but you can bet that he is seeing just as many of his shots get eaten, I know because I have played on both a 28.8 (on a good day) connection and now a good cable connection. It isnt magically easier to play with lag, imagine that instead of seeing one lagger shooting around the screen, EVERYONE is doing it? wouldnt that suck more than just the one?
    3) Often these 'eats' to which you refer are only on your end, other people witnessing the shot, or the one who was shot at, may very well have seen the shot zoom off to one side.

So, if you can give me a sound reason why Eats should be considered unfair advantage and why you should shout it at anyone who beats you, pls post.
If you can't, then just remember what I have said here next time you go for that e button

    youve got me there
i cant think why an "eat" is an unfair advantage, or why they occur most times
in the end they just piss me off

I agree on some parts. Lag doesn't immediately make you a better player. For a laggot, everyone seems to be lagging. However, lag isn't always the same both ways. Like if you have 50% ploss server to client and 0 C2S, you don't see half of people's shots, but they see all of yours. Their movement might seem a bit weird, but if your ping is good enough, it shouldn't matter too much.

And another example of lag giving unfair advantage. In base, the ships are different. So a laggy shark can just ignore everyone, fly in to the cram and mine in the middle of it. Or extremely laggy terr just ignores everything. He can't kill anyone either, but he's a terr, he can just concentrate on staying alive.

But to the original (?) point: Dueling. Even if lag is the same both ways, there is one advantage given my lag. The laggot has probably played more with the lag, so he has gotten used to it. Different playing style is effective for laggy and non laggy players. The laggot has learned how to play with lag, everyone seems to be lagging for him, so he can just use that playing style. But there aren't that many laggy players and when non laggy player duels against laggy player, his normal playing style won't work. It's like left handed people in tennis.

Okay, a dud is when it does not do lethal damage. An eat is when it hits on the shooters screen and does not kill the target (Yes, theres a difference). In TWD i believe it's more powerful so duds do not happen.. Not sure

oh yeah and its not spelt algorythm or spelt algorithm :P

In TWD and most other places, random damage is turned off, so duds won't happen anymore.

And algorithm was kind of the wrong word for that in the first place. "Formula" would've been better.

Dameon's Tutorial on how to not let 'eats' get the best of you... in 1 step.

                STOP TYPING.

I see people on squads that I've been on, and other squads - they hit a player, type "Oh lagass, eat, etc*" and then get killed while complaining.

exactly my point, you are just better off forgetting about it, not spamming eat! eat! eat!
And like I said, I played for 2 years with lag and 2 without, and I did not do better when I had lag (even though honestly I was probably a better player back when I was on a 56K). Ploss isnt lag, its Ploss, so dont confuse my arguement. Yes if someone had crazy s2c ploss and almost no c2s they mihgt have an advantage. The problem is people whose Ploss is too great get specced. And yes, typos do happen :P

I hear you Dameon, I seen it before as well.

Especially, when your squad twdds, in team freq chat, they complain during the match round about some enemy player eating. Its annoying, distracting, plus the one who complains has lost their concentration and lose precious lives.

Not much we can do about random eats, but if its blatant cheating, then keep quiet and just call a twd op. But if it's just random eating, don't waste the time of the twd op.

You don't need a TWDop for a lag check - just ?cheater "This squad/player has horrible lag, check them, please."

But, the only thing here is that I think we need to go over what "lag" is...

Lag does not mean: They are better than you
Lag does not mean: You got killed by them
Lag does not mean: I can't aim so I'll say they lag.

Lag would only fall under where you can visually see the player jumping about and is tanking shots while firing off shots with no stalling. And no, 1 tank doesn't mean the player is a horrible lagger.

Remember: Leave the ego out of your lag reports.

Oh, and just a little aside: If I'm facing your squad, please type as much as possible so I can TK you.

Yes, in theory word lag comes from latency, which is the ping time, but usually when people talk about lag here, they talk about both ping and ploss. Like the command ?ping shows only ping, but command ?lag shows ping and ploss.

Algorithm was the correct word, it means a specific way to tell a computer do something.. and thats exactly what he was refering too

Ploss is lag, Ploss means Packet Loss.. and that is lag C2S is latency which means delay..

To be more specific: A packet is sent from your computer (Say a bullet), that packet is sent to your router and that finds the fastest way to get the packet to the server (Wherever cont server is) that packet goes there and you recieve it back.. The time it takes for it to get there and back is PING, ping is in ms (milliseconds) because it's so goddamn fast. Now Ploss (Packet Loss) means that there could be a slow (Overloaded) or crappy connection down the line and you lose a packet, hence the word packet loss :P. And Latency means delay which means it could be going through a router (On the path to the server) which is being used by many people and could be slowed down because of that reason. So those two factors help make ping go higher (in ms).
