  • TWD Rating Cap

I was wondering if it was a good idea to incorporate a cap on player ratings in TWD squads. The purpose of this cap will be to create more competitive squads instead of just a few therefor eliminating a number of one-sided competitions.

The idea would be to base the cap on total player ratings in each division. The rating formula could be similar to the elim arena's rating formula. Where each individual round will increase or decrease the player's worth depending on how well the player performed in each round. A player improving therefor increasing their rating and worth will later be discussed below.

If a certain player has a rating, for example, of 3000, then his worth would be 3000. If the rating cap on each squad is at 25,000 (example number- maybe more ideal at 30 or 40 thousand), then the player would be worth quite alot because the squad can only afford to have 8 (25,000 / 3000 = 8) of these similarly rated type players plus a 1000 rating player. If the current best squad had a maximum roster (50) and were broken down by the rating cap, then we would gain 5 additional squads all with eight 3000 rating players. All highly competitive. In addition, a 1000 rated player would be able to; if agreed upon by the squad captain or leader; join one of these 5 squads and have a chance at improving their own game and/or becoming that 4th player that they need to start up a match.

In the event that a player improves one's game and increases their rating or worth and are on a squad where they are pushing the rating cap, the squad will have to let go a player within a week (negotiable) to accomodate. If a player's rating or worth decreases, then the squad is able to pick up another player, or let go another player to pickup an even better rated one.

In turn, this idea can prove to provide more competition not just in the duel arenas but also away from the arena in trade forum topics and recruitment scenes. If players become unhappy in their squad, they are not forced to stay. They can simply leave and join another squad that can afford to have them while the squad they leave will just have to make up for their losses.

I believe this idea can bring more interest in the leagues, therefor bringing more interest in the game. It will feel more professional and at the same time attain the feel of playing in a subspace league. All the hype and drama still remain. Just a dash of new ingredients to spice things up.

The problem with that is certain players just like to gravitate toward certain players. Forcing people to join lesser squads because of skill caps probably would move people to not play the game at all instead of them sucking it up and going.

That could also lead to people sandbagging their skills in TWD and underperforming (or throwing matches altogether) to keep vets together til TWL starts. I know if I was forced to leave Rape cause of a cap like this, I wouldn't want to join anyone else.

Indeed what Ara said. People want to play with whoever they want, and forcing them to play with someone else is not good idea. These ideas works in events, and we have one running right now.

Just an idea. Thanks for the input of everything I completely didn't even think about. I guess I should go post this in the Draft forums.
