Hooooooooooooo boy. TWDT Season 30 regular season has concluded. Big shoutout to all Captains and players for sticking it out and competing until the very end. In true Trench Wars fashion, we've found ourselves within the grips of another controversy thanks to a 3-way tie between Thunder, Legendary & Power.
To clarify, our decade+ copy / pasted rules address tiebreaks as follows...
According to the rules as written (and passed on for the last 10+ years), as well as past-precedence in how I've been involved (4.5+ years) handling tiebreaks... this looks at overall h2h W/L, without resetting h2h after a tiebreak has been established. Meaning, this makes Thunder the #5 seed, and Legendary the #6 seed.
Official TWDT Playoff Standings
One-time Play-in
That said, the rule itself is, in my opinion, illogical and unfair and will be rewritten for future TWDTs to include resetting the h2h W/L comparison after each tiebreak is established. In the future, this would make Power the #6 seed, leaving Legendary to #7. However, in the spirit of fairness and after discussion with other ops, the following "play-in" resolution will be used this one-time only.
Legendary, by rule, is the #6 seed. The next-best, non-playoff team per division will be granted a bo1 play-in vs Legendary before QF games on Sunday, March 16th.
TWDT-D:
(#6) Legendary vs Cloud (next-best, non-playoff)
TWDT-J:
(#6) Legendary vs Power (next-best)
TWDT-B:
(#6) Legendary vs Power (next-best)
Quarter-finals
After the play-in matches, traditionally-seeded QFs will be played as-scheduled and as per the existing rules (more details to follow as an update to this post... wanted to address the controversy first)
Update #1: Corrected a mistake saying PL & dicE received a bye in all 3 divisions. They do not. #1 and #2 teams in each division receive the bye.
To clarify, our decade+ copy / pasted rules address tiebreaks as follows...
For purposes of tiebreak for seeds #1/2 and for determining which teams make the playoffs, the overall head-to-head record will be taken into account across all three leagues between the tied teams.
