It doesn't make sense to send packets reliably in a real time game because of lag. Flag claimed is one of many packets and it is unlikely that this one packet would be changed in the client for all of SS to account for a bug that affects only TW basing. I wouldn't expect any changes.
What could be changed is to increase the frequency of the server sending the flag update packets to all the clients every 15 seconds instead of 60 seconds (or whatever it is). That way if you client thinks the flag is yellow, at least the server will tell you it's blue and allow you to touch it sooner. You'll lose less every time it happens.

Although thinking about it more, the games I've lost due to the bug were always really close- like 10:00-9:55. The closer the game is the more people are suiciding towards the flag and the more likely the bug will be seen.
So maybe the best thing is to just replay even though replaying sucks monkeys.
