I'm used to this typical "i've been playing so long" and "you don't know what you are talking about" rhetoric already.

When I said I'd like to see BasingCrew with the upset, that doesn't mean I suspect it will happen, I'd just like to see it because no one expects it. You know what they say about assuming.

If I am so horribly wrong, I highly recommend just ignoring me, because you can sure bet I will be ignoring you.

Likewise, I don't act like a basing authority. There is another assumption on your part. I am putting MY opinion out there, and with 204 spiders and no real good system for tracking how good they do, it's IMPOSSIBLE to see it all, and I so I used statistics.

If you assumed I was coming out like the foremost authority on basing, that's the fault of the arrogant stick being in your arse, not mine. I'm not claiming to be better than anyone or know more, but there seem to be a lot of people who get a lot more balls the second they get up here and turn anything into an excuse for a pissing contest.

Haha this is hilarious, I'll be the first one to admit I'm having a terrible season and at times have been a real pain for my team during twlbs, and in no way deserve to be on any lists, whatever my (probably nice) stats are. as long as my squad doesnt reach the finals we've all played just as shitty.
Of course everyone is free to share their opinion. But as long as you start looking at things like best rec/ratio/TeKs when talking about who's the best spider, I simply get a bit annoyed.
I doubt anyone could make a proper top 10 about spiders though, simply because you'd have to analyze every player on every team. I doubt that any of the topsquads in TWL can tell who's their most valuable spider out of their starting 4/5 spiders, and that kinda prooves my point I'm trying to make. I really don't care who you are, have no reason to hate you, but just saying these lists are useless. Spidering in twl is pure teamplay, and that's what makes it so much different from ?go base.
Right now, in my humble opinion, sure you can keep looking at recs, ratios, when talking about skill, but then I can't do anything else but call your way of rating players unintelligent, and because of that I think a comment like 'wow this is one bullshit thread' isn't really that unintelligent at all, because it's as straight to the point as possible. Sure it might be fun to some, but top 5s for spiders will always be utter bullshit, the winning team are the mvps.


Btw, I'm sure your commentating is really fun to witness sometime. :P

I really don't think ANYONE could, but I tried. I started with easy ships to figure out who was good, and people wanted more, I decided to do spiders but then I looked and I couldn't figure out a good way to rate them... so I did the best I could with what I had... being unable to see EVERYONE play and be really fair.

I think it is unintelligent to offer debasement without replacement. Maybe unintelligent isn't the proper word, maybe it's just plain inane and I just got irritated and make a rash call... hard to say, I really don't feel like analyzing my feeling on the situation... my patience for it is really thin because people make all these assumptions that I am trying to claim to be this incredible baser and this wonderous source of basing knowledge... I've gotten a fair bit of flak for it, so my patience is almost at 0...

I appreciate that you enjoy my commentary, always good to hear that people enjoy it. Too often the loudest voices are those few dissenting and so you never really know what's going on, but I've had a lot of support for it.

Everyone's a critic, though, when it comes to my judgement calls on who is the best this and that...

I think it'd be bloody impossible to really rank a Top 20 spiders much less a Top 5, but since I set the precedent with my javs and WB report... I tried to stick to it as best I could...

If you labled this thread "Top 10 Statistical Spiders in TWLB this year" you would have been flamed a whole lot less. If you made it sound like you personally think that statistics do not make a great spider, then you wouldn't have been flamed at all.

Haha i made the list as #4. i'd bask in my limited glory...but seriously folks, i could name another 10 or so people that i hate to play against becuase quite frankly, they're better. i don't think i put fear into the opposing team

that depends on what line you are playing. If you plan on going with a 4 1, with a jav, you usually have 2 defensive spiders, and 2 aggressive, you usually need 2 to make up for the lack of protection for your terr, and since the jav acts as an aggressor, you don't need 3 aggr spiders. If you're doing 4 1 with the wb, it's basically the same thing, but you could play with a single defensive spider, since the wb attracts so much attention you won't need as much protection. For a 5 sppiders lineup, it really depends on how good your spiders are, but usualyl you go 2 def 3 aggr, or the opposite, those are they safe lines. alot of teams stick 4 aggresive spiders with 1 defensive one, and let the 4 get the kills, while the defensive one stays alive. It also depends on who you are playing, but since you usually don't know, you kind of have to guess who to play. A-s seems to have two designate "defensive" spiders, in spybreak and nethila, and the rest are aggressors. I'm just rambling on, do whatever you want nOOBIe

Hey, we have a really hard game coming up this weekend with -final-, should we fall to the big boys in black, I want to give it up in advance to hellz, sleeps, koan, peej, fruit, vihta, and blood- they were the best spiders i've ever played with- what a sickening overstock of talent at the three ship, it is a shame that we basing captains are so stuck on not playing 5 spiders because it always means having to sit one more of these guys. Seriously though, i know we're given a lot of credit in basing, and our spiders are certainly in every "best spider crew" conversation, but you guys don't understand how fucking good we've got it, these kids are the truth and it's been a pleasure to fly with them.

Having said that, let us not let this ride(s) come to an end just yet. 20-40 minutes of hell -final-, we'll be there, looking forward to it.

I have to agree with bram on this one. It's cool if you want to share your opinion about the spiders that are around, but it seems alot like you don't really have an opinion. If there is a base of 204 spiders it shouldn't be to hard to know them all. I think you can name any spider that is more than decent and people know him. Your list seems to be based on statistics, and you are talking about a tracking system. That's not an opinion, if you would have a tracking system that combined and registered everything that is important (wich would be impossible) any opinion would be out of place, because then everyone could look up who was the best spider.
Now if you make your list and you give the reason why, you can expect people to disagree. With bram, I think with statistics you can't decide who is best.
When I first saw that dttr was getting massive recs I went to spec him an entire match because I thought he would be awesome. But his team just was good and all he did was camp in box shooting at entrance and sit in cram shooting down and playing it really safe. You could say that killing alot is important, but he heavily relies on his team. I don't think that makes him a very good spider, but the person who makes sure he can keep this style up is.
On the other hand I heard from Eggs R Evil that dttr would also play a very agressive style, so maybe somewhere, if needed, he can be an awesome spider (adaptive spider as bram mentioned). I just never seen him play any other way than the campy style.
So I would like to know if you ever seen dttr play an other way, or do you just think that you are a great spider if you rely on your team that much?

PS: I thought of bram as a campy spider too...
