yeah because, it takes so long to find a game cuz most good squads never have enough on and bad squads wont play, yet they still will get into twl cuz they only play squads much worse then them.

Twl Qual System doesnt work

There's no way an invite system would work unless this secret panel were to not participate in any TWD/TWL games with a squad currently competiting in it. So, in effect they'd have to be a veteran (no less) and not in a squad running for twd/twl. That really narrows the selection unless the people chosen for the job can be implicitly biased.♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫

I do not think twd should be pick and choose. What about a system where you message the bot with like !jav:4 and the bot will match you up with another squad wanting a javelin match to 4. It'd sure cut down on the backing out.. and if a squad is upset they aren't winning any games and can't make leagues becuase they are getting all hard squad.. then who cares they probaly don't belong there in the first placeDodge in game :greedy:

Claus's idea is the best I've heard too...
Kim, I don't think that's true. I'm pretty sure every decent squad wants good competition in TWL and would pick the best squads. Retired vets have no idea who's good, and usually assume that if they don't know them, they must suck. The panel would NEED to be participants to be worthwhile.
So while I like my idea, I still think Claus' is better.
I don't know how complex that could be, but it would be cool if... let's say.. we put in /!challenge javs:4 and someone else was looking for a game for 5 players, if it would ask them "will you accept a game for 4 players?" and if they say yes, we go off to the races.Last edited by bloodzombie; 01-11-2005, 02:59 PM.http://www.trenchwars.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15100 - Gallileo's racist thread

THe idea could use some work but claus' is definatly something that could/should get looked over and possibly implimented for next season. The only TWO TIME TWLJ All-Star and TWLB All-Star who never played a game.

It could work if you melded all these ideas together in a coherent fashion.
Obviously you need balance, you can't simply be unable to challenge or play a particular squad, however on the otherhand it can be difficult to find matches.
If you do implement a feature where you message the bot with !jav:4 to set you up with a match, the ELO system needs to be adjusted for it, and the bot has to have parameters.
Let's say you have all these things in place, you now have the freedom to choose who you want to play, or you can ask the bot to randomely set you up with a match. However, having both doesn't solve the problems of abusers, nor does it guarantee that other squads will be looking for random matches at the same time as you (since there is no requirement for random matches).
In the end, the !jav:4 just ends up being like 'Quick Match' on XBOX, without nearly as many people using it. 'Optimatch' is like Quick Match, however you can specify what range of opponent you'd like to play. This feature (optimatch: !jav:4:1100-1300) helps avoid Venom having to play wolvencreed or whatever, but it further reduces the odds of finding a match.
So, you have a system that can work, but you need to give people incentive to use it and play random squads. Being unable to judge who your opponent is and their current lineup, you're at a disadvantage. Why take the risk?
1. Make choosing random matches reduce your points loss if you lose by 25%, and cap a loss at -30pts.
2. Random matches give you credits to play select matches. Each squad get's one credit for every random match they play. Squads credits reset every week to 5 (to prevent people from saving them up for the end of qualifying). Select matches cost 1 credit.
3. Instead of 32 in qualifying, change it to 20. Give the Top 8 in TWD a by into Playoffs. 9-20 can battle it out in 4 qualifying groups (A,B,C,D), divisions of 3 teams, 2/3 make playoffs. Rather than these 4 groups be assembled by rank, LET TW VETS/OPS/ADVISORS CHOOSE WHO IS IN WHAT GROUP (in order to assure that the best squads are spread out and not clustered into a division, thus knocking out someone playoff worthy). Use the current 2 pre-season matches for these qualifiers. In the unlikely event of a three-way 1-1, 1-1, 1-1 tie in a division, give the highest ranked on ladder a by into playoffs, and do one of those 'day-before-the-start-of-tourny' matches like NCAA's March Madness (64-65) to see who plays in the tourny.
4. Stop giving former TWL squads automatic by's into the playoffs. Look at Mambo in TWLJ or whatever. Only give semi-finalists of the former season a chance to return with 50% of their roster and give them spots 17,18,19,20 for qualifiers, so if they aren't active (or suck) at least they're given a good chance to enter TWL.
With these things in place, you'd still have just as much whining as we do now, but at least it would be unfounded.

The selection system by a panel rather than using TWD rankings worked fairly well for every TWL season before 6. There are definitely flaws in the TWD system (though it is a great system to have) and I think those can be worked out be not relying solely on standings in TWD since squads aren't forced to play games versus tougher squads.

As we have announced over the past months, the squads which qualify for TWL will be the highest ranked TWD squads which are not already in TWL and which have played at least 20 games in their respective TWL Subleague.Cat: You'd never get a cat to be a servant. You ever see a cat return a stick? 'Hey man. You threw the stick, you go and get it yourself, I'm busy. If you wanted the stick so bad, why'd you throw it away in the first place?'
