Although I don't necessarily see the need for new leagues, I'll add in my thoughts to yours.

First I think new ideas are always great, and welcomed. (At least the should be!) Just really hard to get new ideas to take off. B)

Next, the underlying flaw I believe I see to your wb/jav league idea is that it will promote pacifism. In an attempt to make your ideal plausible, for me, I've generated the following interesting solution? Players are removed from the game when they fail to kill. ie: players have 2 minutes to make a kill, when a kill is made they have 2 minutes to make the next. Players who fail to do so will be removed and that team will face a disadvantage. Win by eliminating the other team within the time limit, or having the highest cumulative kill record at the end of the time limit. (Note: you can run to avoid letting an opponent make their kill, but you have to make a kill too to remain in.) Personally I think this will end up generating a league that duplicates TWLD/TWLJ but with a mix of 2 ships and a time limit rather than a death limit.

In regards to your basing proposal I don't see enough change to make it a unique league, fits more as suggestions to change basing. I do think it'd be nice to allow more ship changes (my opinion, allow it on deaths) as I think it'd create more of a dynamic league of pressing and altering strategies to defeat your opponent. I also like your idea of designing it to better represent pub. Although what I'd like to see is modification to at least the weasel/levi so that they could play an active roll in basing (I think it'd be awesome to have a basing league with 8 equally playable ships.) Yet, that'll be pretty hard to do.
    TWLB Champion Season 1 (Light)
    TWLD Champion Season 6/7 (Elusive/Syndicate)
    TWLJ Champion Season 7 (Syndicate)

1 of the first 2 to get all 3. (Fireballz is other)

Interesting idea it sounds more like the "race in elim" it could be a option for twd games... maybe not an entire league but another kind of game you coul have the smae way you choose 4 vs 4 or 5 vs 5 you could choose "race" or "standart" it would add flavour to the league.

For WB/Javs: It's a fun idea that's been presented MANY times before on this forum.

As before I'll point out the only real flaw in the proposal:

Now as others have already pointed out, this really won't change gameplay from current at all. At the very least, up until the point where the first guy is at around 8-9 deaths (usually around the 30 kill mark for decent teams) the game remains quite the same.

After that point, under the current system, we reward people for being able to stay alive. The skills necessary to stay alive in a situation when you are being targetted, are VERY different from the skills in being able to get kills. The fundamanetal difference is that good players (players who can get a lot of kills), and more important what are currently considered good players (people who get lots of kills) don't necessarily have the best 'staying alive in clutch time' skills. So the net effect is that currently, even 'bad' players can have an impact by just staying alive and keeping the game 5on5 until someone on the other team is eliminated, then your team has an advantage and can possibly in the game.

When you have 5 players who never die out, then you arrive at another conclusion. Basically teams with 5 really good players who are good at KILLING will win even more than they do now. I believe this system will actually magnify the disparity between good and bad teams, as good teams will win even more.

Currently if one bad player chokes, you can never get those deaths back... and once that slot is gone, it's gone forever. Even if you sub someone who is 1-5 or something, the sub usually plays careful as not to die out. Even a team with 'bad' players can capitalize on this by carefully targetting that one guy.

If you had unlimited lives, the sub would just go all out. Thereby the team with the better 'killers' will win every game, regardless of what kind of strategy the other team has. Basically this means that even if one player chokes on the team which is better (on paper), it has a very minimal effect on the overall flow of the game (getting more kills to cover up excess losses, is easier than coming back when you're down a man).

Meanwhile for worse teams, their bad players who die will just keep on dying. Instead of dying out at a nice 10 deaths, they'll end the game with 20 deaths, further magnifying the scores of blowout games, and making the game even less fun for the team who's getting blown out.

Basically there'll be no end to the slaughter, it won't be a pretty sight for anyone.

A bit of slaughter is always nice, just give the team a total deathcount of 50 max without removing them on a certain amount of deaths. First player to die -when the other team has 45 kills- is out, even if he didn't have a single death before. Would be nice to see someone you don't like all that much get 20+ deaths ^^

bob makes a good point, why do all these people bother coming in here to post "sounds like a stupid idea" everytime someone attempts to bring in some interesting or fresh concepts?

i understand the "brain off" philosophy while flying your spaceship, but on a forum you can at least try to add something constructive.

                    on topic:

i like the idea of changing the style without compromising the essence of the game (ship-settings). TW is a one-shot kill game, and keeping that intact while expanding the game would be a nice break from the 10 deaths and youre out scenario, especially with a 1 round wins all, 1 game a week. You fuck up for a few seconds and youre already down 1-5 or whatever.

TWLD and TWLJ are like the cappuchino of Subspace.

I like the idea of using infinite deaths/lagouts and a certain timeframe to play under, but keeping things simple is important, so the idea would have to be streamlined a bit.

It would definitely be cool to have javs and wb's in the same space, although i think doing that would be too extreme of a change (for now). the people of subspace, like the real world, need incremental change

i did read only part about basing.

well 15min game is too short and if other squad would alrdy have 8min game would be done so basing would be boring again, thats one reason why it changed.

new cloaker ruins pub (i c 7 cloakers at the same time on screen if i use x-radar) it would also ruin base matches.
i loved to get 2000bty with lev it was fun but what if cloaker and lev would be changed so they would be more base ships:

example lev would be a bit faster but bombs would do only a bit more damage than jav, that way it wouldnt be so ez and it could be usefull. and i mean only A LITLE BIT more than jav so ppl couldnt get cram so ez. and it would be hard in flagroom batles because it would be slow ship(but faster than its right now)

cloaker well even old cloaker were better than its now. change cloaker so it cant recharge while cloaks are on and a bit slower. and jav, spider, lanc should have x-radar because they are defending ships. lame cloaking shouldnt be too ez :P

Hmmm, well, the one thing that stands out the most to me now is the infinite lagouts/subs. That should be easy enough to do. Like I said before, only allow subs when someone lags out or dies, and it doesn't really matter how many subs are used. Since you get a death if u lagout/spec, this won't hurt anything anymore.

I forgot about the fact that people could run at the end. Though, you could do something like if there weren't any kills going on near the end, the team that was ahead would end up losing... Getting a kill every 2 minutes may actually be quite hard, especially for slow starters like me.

Heh, was just a thought. Saying it's "stupid" without an explanation is whats really stupid. :/

if the winning team runs then the team chasing can come up with some crazy formation and trap them since it will still be 5vs5 (right? :x). You can only run so far with 5 birds on your ass

I agree, it's been elimination style for too long for it to suddenly change, but it can just be tried out in TWD and see how it goes, of course while keeping the regular die at 10 option. Like !challenge squad:#players:elim/time
