How about everyone emails there own reviews of matchs to one particular player and that chosen player looks through them all and decides which is the best one to post that week. Or even post snippets from different ones.
If no one reviews a match then the chosen player reviews it. Means alot more work for the person chosen but might lead to fun reads.Ogron - "Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for 10* attitude [Ardour]"

I think it would be helpful if we told the reporters what we'd like to hear them talk about. For me personally I'd like to hear about an amazing moment in basing ... for ex ... Suff sits on flag in the middle of an intense FR battle and has a 10 kill streak, or Suff (in terr) gets pinned in an ear and gets milked for 5 min before pulling out an amazing burst that TeKs the nme and ends up cramming for the win. Focusing on key events, whether it be an amazing shot by a jav that kills cram, or a nice string of kills by a spid ... or a nice dive for the flag in the middle of an intense FR battle (i'd like to know who makes key flag touches).

How many people liked Hot or Not because:
- they might get to see their own name
- it might contain juicy gossip/flames
Would it be as popular is the writers limited the scope to only talking about a squad's play? Example, "SquadX spider's had a hard time breaking cram in this base game" or "SquadY's teaming was really lacking in this week's WB match".
My opinion is that if this thing is basically popular for stupid reasons like people seeing their name mentioned or to hear some gossip, then it shouldn't be in the league website. Those reasons are why we have these forums. Everyone is welcome to use them as a way to flame each other, start rumors, post and exchange half truths, and serve up all the subject matter that they can stand to write.
Why does the league need to provide space (and add legitimacy) to this kind of thing? I can think of no examples IRL where any league is involved in supporting subjective opinions of play. Certainly there are plenty of subjective opinions that are offered for entertainment by 3rd party entities, but none are a part of the league organization in any way.
My opinion extends to believing that the league web site information is perceived as 'official', carrying more weight then information then, let's say, in these forums. If this is true, what is the impact of having a mix of 'official' information and 'non-official' information coming from the league?
Why is it so important to post these opinions on the league web site? Why is it not simply a weekly sticky thread in these forums?

Cig Smoke is HOT1:Da1andonly> korven plays subspace from a 1978 microwave
Grab a piece of paper. Place a dot in the middle of it. Draw a small circle around the dot, and leave the rest open. The dot represents your knowledge. It's what you know. It is the limit of your mind's capacity. The circle around the dot is everything that you don't know - but you know that it exists. And the rest of the paper is everything that you didn't even know that you'd never know - that exists or has the potential to exist.

eph, i believe the reason hot or not has turned into flaming moreso than actual reporting is because most people don't have the ability to take subjective material and present it in an entertaining way. it takes at least a decent writer to do so, and let's face it, our community has about as many writers as florida has residents below the age of 50.
if hot or not is going to truly work this year, we need to:
a.) get people who have at least some idea how to write
b.) split up the reporting into a league by league fashion, with one pair of people reporting on lb, one on lj and one on ld (this makes it much easier to catch a majority of the games you'd need to see in order to present a well researched article)
c.) this last one is asking for a bit much, but it would be absolutely wonderful if we could extend the "league weekend" an extra day and play matches on fri/sat/sun. and in doing so, we could play all matches of each respective league on their own unique day. all of twlb on fri, all of twlj on sat and all of twld on sun, for example. with this sort of setup, we'd reap a shitload of benefits, benefits beyond the scope of hot or not. anyway, it would make it a lot easier for reporters to set plans in order to be able to make it to the matches they need to see. and for those of you who would say that this is unfair to the squads themselves, that being forced to show up on a certain day for their match isn't cool, i say boo fucking hoo. we could routinely rotate the days such that one week is lb - fri/lj - sat/ld - sun and then the next week is ld - fri/lb - sat/lj - sun. captains would still be able to negotiate time slots. each individual day would be less packed with matches, making it easier on league refs and even the bots. and last but not least, i'm sure someone will come here and remind us all how badly they need their friday nights to go out and get wasted and be the world's best socialite, and to that i again say, boo fucking hoo. the pros far outweigh the cons here.
edit: and here's one last idea
d.) we could establish a new league position (of sorts) in which at least one or more persons is/are required to record all twl matches. hot or not writers could then download the matches and watch them at their leisure, ensuring they don't miss a minute of the action.
just one final note before i finally finish up with this post. all of what i have posted are merely ideas, my own opinions. please feel free to comment on them. that's exactly what i'd like to see. don't come here and start flaming about how this or that is stupid though, unless you're prepared to adequately explain why you think it's stupid.jasonofabitch loves!!!!

The video taping capability is there, the space required to hold 100 meg+ files (for an average length basing match), is not.
I still think, if nothing much is to be changed, the simplest and most logical thing to do for Hot or Not this season is to have different people for different leagues.

How about we give like 10 guys the task of watching as many matches as possible on weekends, then they write a report on the match they thought was best. They might have to pick their matches beforehand to reduce the amount of reports from the same match, though.6:megaman89> im 3 league veteran back off

I think you guys are thinking way to big on this notion. A staff of 10 people or having everybody write in is just not feasable.
I think you want 3 guys, 1 per league. The only TWO TIME TWLJ All-Star and TWLB All-Star who never played a game.
