Is it not the intent to grow the league and TW in general? If so, then how does auto-qualifying help that to happen? If not, how does it inhibit it from happening?
My opinion is that there are pros and cons to both sides, but that after weighting them out the scale is tipped to hurting more than helping the league and TW. While having auto-qualified teams helps to stabilize and provides continuity to the league, it also can create staleness and can inhibit the quality of the squads. (Previously when a squad was known to be auto-qualified, players without a squad or on a squad that was not guaranteed to get in would often join an auto-qualified squad in the time period just before cut-off. This leads to squads who make it into the league with a mix of players that have skills but little teamwork.)
