just thought i would quote myself...

thats the only way to get any of this crap to work. stop rewarding longevity and start rewarding activity. dont let an excuse about 'been playing for years' or 'too boring to play easy people' and junk like that. stop listening to all the other vets who only log on once a week for their match and no other times. if we want to grow at all, we have to stop listening to the people that barely play. thats the bottom line of it. otherwise, we'll just continue down the same path.

This is in my opinion is a 2 sided matter, if we take -FINAL- and lifeban as examples, we would obviously have -F- as the vets and lifeban as the activity. Now since this TWL obviously proved that TWL-Staff pick squads for "competition" rather than something else, I would say this idea is flawed. But he still has a point concerning activity over "dead squads".

Simply put; lifeban played a lot of games in a few weeks before TWL started, which is called activity, the result of this activity was what? 1-6 in TWLD, whilst -F- could obviously have been 6-1. This of course is debatable but had -F- been playing this season Style's warbirds would most likely have been split in two.

i think the cup idea is great, the surprise cut-off date however is not.

with a date established (pick it a month away or something) EVERYONE knows EXACTLY when it ends. if they can't earn enough points to secure their spot by gaining enough points, they probably shouldn't be in TWL anyway.

It's a tough decision to make, but an important one to establish now. Personally, I'm tied between wanting to see an older squad like diso return to TWL and then the other side of it, if you can't put in the effort to show the zone you're interested then why should it bend to your whim? Diso has some history with this game, but if diso is dying then at some point you just gotta let it go. I'm not saying it is dying or any assumptions like that(I'm talking hypothetically), it just seems like you guys are having activity problems and you're saying that 50 games is steep. If it's 50 games total then that's extremely easy, if it's 50 games per division then that's a little steep.

As for the other rules, I'm still debating quite a few of them. The only two that I'm not really in favor of: the idea of a surprise qualification, not replacing squads that drop out. It's a nice gesture and I think I see what you guys are getting at. You're trying to eliminate bias but also create a system that's a little less abused. Pascone probably made his biggest mistake as a TWL op by stopping certain squads last TWL from getting into certain leagues and I know you want to avoid that, but I don't think this is going to really solve your problem except for take away the blame. Doc Flabby's idea isn't bad, but he did outline its flaw.

I'll try to think of some options to change it around. Nice to see you making some changes to the rules, especially ahead of time.

Basically by using the method i suggested it makes it much harder to lame your way into TWL (since both your avg and score are used) This would kinda get rid of the need to have surpise qaulification as well, it has some issues as I have outlined in my bigger post earlier...

It's been suggested before that squads who enter later normally have a higher average ratio simply because more squads have more points.

most of the rules are fine, apart from the "replacement squads", in case someone dissolves you cant give 50-0/15:00 to other people, it can mean alot come playoff time. there always should be replacement squads, but i dont think theres going to be much dissolving this year, twl is probably gonna be competetive and stable this year.

as for the surprise cutoff, you have two options, either give a date for people, because qualifying on the last day always gives excitment to twd, and every year people qualify on the last day, but then your going to face the "who deserves more" problem, even though in my opinion most of the people who "lame" to get in are quite obvious. or doing the surprise cutoff, you wont have to pick who deserves more, but like pasc said, there will be conspiracy theories, so heres my idea, set a poll where people can vote on a day from the week you picked, and then show the results some hours before the cutoff or, simply end it, and then show the poll results so people dont doubt you, so basicly a surprise poll.

Not sure that it would matter too much about the score at the end of the regular season if squads level on points are going to be separated by their head to head record.

An alternative is to not have replacement squads and have the results for any squad who dissolve completely wiped out so they have effectively not participated in the season at all. Of course this will only work if the chosen squads are stable ones and we would only see 1 drop out every few seasons or so.

Yes, if a squad dropped out, then all past and future scores in TWL would be forfeited. One of the reasons for the rule is that squads who replace drop-outs in TWL dont have much going for them if they enter during the later rounds, and could have a tough time competing against top TWL squads during the earlier rounds.

Also, is it fair that say, a squad drops out midseason that was doing well, won a few games, is replaced by a theoretically weaker squad who is easy points for the rest of the TWL contenders? What about the TWL squads who had to play the harder squad?

That was some of the reasoning for having no replacement squads. There are exceptions to the theoretically weaker squad of course. But if no one thinks that matters, then the rule will be removed.

You can still forfeit all games scorewise but let a squad in and play anyway. It's better for remaining squads to play some game and it's still experience and e-props should the replacement squad score a win, even if the score is forfeit.

This is an idea that has been brought up in discussions. However, one possiblly large problem is if scores dont count, replacement squads might have very little motivation to show up each week. Do you think getting a chance to play a TWL squad is enough motivation?
