I suppose if there is a reason like that an exception can be made. Even to the people that don't exactly like the guy, he's proven he can cap a squad. That's what we want most, is squads that can stay together and competitive and entire season, and it seems like he can make that happen.

i'm not going to be a character reference here, i don't really know the guy. he seems like an idiot for the most part. however, he seems like he has good intentions for the squad he's capping always. he's a dedicated cap, was the point i was trying to get across; not necessarily a competent dude (one love ignite).

It does however seem completely pointless, just hand the cap to someone you trust, and you can still be the de facto captain making all the decisions :/

You think ignite got booted off Paladen for no reason? Its obvious he is a horrid captain, just ask any of them for more details. Even with all the money thrown about, Quake is teetering like a volcano ready to dissolve at any point in time. A number of good players won't join his squad even at the offer of hundreds of dollars, that's how much they dislike his leadership. How embarrasing =P

On top of that, giving money to people to join your squad is exactly proof that he sucks as a captain, most people can get his players on their squads for free =P

fact: ignite is dedicated to his squad. this is illustrated by the fact that hes online some 10 hours a day 7 days a week, rarely playing the actual game. his time is spent scouting players, recruiting, talking to vets, and spamming chat=corvez. it's quite possible he's the most dedicated player in tw, and he doesn't even play. -Tragik

But no, in all seriousness, I've spoken outside of subspace to some of the core that has gone to Quake over money, and they have confirmed (though do not wish to be named), that ignite has indeed given them quite large sums of money in return for joining.

in a related topic, i would like to defend ignite as captain

if i'm reading the rule correctly, it was conceived as a way to punish captains that "don't take twl seriously", prevent squads from dissolving, and otherwise put a damper on trench wars' premier event. and, like many rules, while written with good intentions, ultimately fails in execution and actual applicability.

for example

the reason build was replaced by disoblige last season in twld was because of a rule that stated the minimum roster size for a twl squad must be 8. i believe this is to be fair to those twlb teams, who must field a minimum of 8 players. build was showing 5 players every week, and playing quite well, enough to make playoffs - ultimately succumbing to some disofag who combed through the rules to have his team get stomped first round in playoffs.

as such, the spirit of twl is to provide an atmosphere of competition at the highest level. the 8-minimum rule was clearly conceived with good intentions but did not consider the possibility of a wb-exclusive squad with only 7 rostered. given the fact that two subs are allowed in a 5v5 in twld, 7 people is the max that are allowed to play anyways, so why should the minimum be 8 for a twld squad?

similarly, this banned-captain list is one of those rules that makes sense, but ultimately doesn't work. as subspace remains a game, and as most of its players still prioritize real life over a game, it's understandable that situations may arise that cause someone to leave for extended periods. it was unfortunate that ignite could not continue capping puma, but i believe somebody in his family was dying of cancer. so it goes. without ignite heading the ship, the squad lost direction and motivation, eventually leading to its drop out. this is unfortunate, but i am happy to report that ignite no longer has any more family members suffering from cancer.

as such, we should look at his track record since then, leading up to the present day. after taking control of paladen, he make some aggressive recruiting, which eventually resulted in the #1 twdd squad, and a 29 game win streak, which included all of the top squads. now, the heist of ignite's captain position in paladen has been well documented, but suffice to say had he remained captain, paladen would have been one of the top squads competing in twld.

and somehow, through no fault of his own, the paladen illuminati took it upon themselves to restore their old band of 10 year vets who have never gotten good and therefore have to "play for fun" (i dunno, winning a game seems more fun to me than losing), and promptly saw their dd rating drop at least 300 points in the span of a few days. but i digress.

so ignite, being the 10 hour a day nerd that he is, gets his captain hat back on and starts quake, which, in the span of a week or two, has destroyed the dd ladder and is currently on a 19 game win streak.

fact: ignite is a good captain. those that still believe he is paying people need to get their head out of their ass. it's a joke. ha ha.

the rule was put into place to prevent squads from dissolving. there's several problems with this -

one, there's 3 captains for any particular squad. maybe one has a history of dissolving. but as long as one of the 3 captains is deemed as reliable, what's the problem.

two - just like scores from previous twl seasons matter little in predicting how well a particular player will play this season, history has little to do with predicting how long a squad will last, or how loyal a particular player will be. rather, records from the current twd reset should be given the most weight, and in this respect, ignite has been very reliable as a captain.

three - it doesn't mean anything. if it was enforced, ignite and vys would be (A) and somebody else would take over as (C), but the only thing that changes is the tag. it's still ignite and vys' squad. this is a big deal when you consider that ignite is one of those people that has relegated himself to full-time captain. he doesn't play anymore. he finds more entertainment and worth in networking, leading, and otherwise running a potential twld championship squad. if you take away his captain, what purpose is there for him? yes, he can be captain "in spirit", but that's retarded. the (C) matters.

yes, i understand that rules are rules, but rules were written by mistake-prone people. it's my belief that this rule is a mistake, and if enforced, you are taking away the motivation of one particular captain to keep running his squad. since only two captains are impacted by this ruling, it's kind of a big deal.

Also vys should never be allowed to cap any squad ever. This has been seen last year with lifeban and now this year with twdt. He doesnt take it seriously and has a bad reputation with this zone for his attitude and cheating. As far as ignite goes, puma should have never been in the last twl, since he started up a squad called "tasty" and was feeding his own squad points to qualify. If theres a lesson here its dont repeat the same mistakes.
