LOL, ok. I'm not going to argue with you about TWDD. That's never been my stage. I'll just stop reading after your first 1.3 sentences, which were actually well thought out.

I'm no warbird, but I've observed a couple things in this thread. Hah, big fucking surprise, an old vet with Siege in his squad tag is talking like people in the old days were better. Really typical of a couple of posters here and it's always hilarious. You understand that those guys would have to practice pretty damn hard to keep up with the guys these days, not out of rust, but out of different tactics right?

Look at Lews Therin, he was great back in the day, came back for a season or two recently and just couldn't keep up. There's absolutely ridiculous natural talent like Raspi and Deez (who, mind you, hasn't been around as long) have, but most of the guys were the warbird gods back then, but wouldn't fair as well now.

I've played for damn near 8 years, and I always stick up for the new guys. Why? Because some vets can be incredibly big headed about their past careers that they can't attend to anymore because of other time commitments. We get it, you were great players and everyone honestly respects it (fuck we have a hall of fame), but people these days have learned from your successes and weaknesses and adapted them to their own strategies, and by George wouldn't you know it, with all their time practicing, they have maybe made their own strategies! The game is a lot different in a lot of subtle ways and some not so subtle.

We all respect you guys for what you've done, but stop coming in here and spouting your bullshit rhetoric about how much better the skill was back then, or anything remotely hinting at it.

I disagree, that is why it is the same players getting to the twld semi's and finals every year. Quake is basically Final/Rusher, Heavy is Heavy/Quicksand, and Thunder and Pirates are Thunder and Pirates, Dynasty is just Quicksand, and Sake is just stray with a really inactive/laggy group of starters. Where are the new players in TWLD that are stepping up and getting into the playoffs? Syne/Rape/Whiskeyjack all had miserable seasons, and Sweet even though Jones and Aerin are somewhat older can't get very far without the support of Thunder/Sk8. No new squads are ever going to step up because the game has changed. If anyone does get good they just get recruited to one of the above squads and never form their own alliances, or build their own squads. So yeah, there might be a few (very few) new players who step up and play for one of the better squads (yakuza for instance) but where the zone is broken is they never become the next squad captain who can actually recruit talented newbies from the pubs, and teach them how to play so they become a talented squad in 2-3 seasons.

I also only know about TWLD so I can't really comment about basing and javving. The squad I would say that has the best chance of actually becoming decent if they stick together in a few years would probably be Rape, they have a loyal core of players who won't leave to join a better squad, and Valholy is going to be a good warbird, he has talent. So rape is going to be basically what Quicksand was when we first started coming on to the scene.

Paul, I think you are assuming wrongly about me. Until I got married I played pretty much from season 3 to season 11. I had a few breaks in between, but any time I've ever been active I've been highly competitive. My sentiment was more that the number of respectable, skilled players in this zone is at an all-time low. I'd call it more a stab at the activity of the zone than at the players themselves. When we had 500+ online every day I had already been playing several years, but the talent level definitely increased during that time (especially since the res. cap being taken away levelled the playing field significantly). I see the talent level very much correlating with the activity and quantity of players. The popularity of Trench Wars has seen a very gradual hump over the years, and we're certainly in a valley today.
