  • TWLD Finals Preview

Pssst it's TWLD finals week. Which means it's time for another ignite column on some two dimensional asteroids navigation ship game play...

No time for small talk. I'm cutting the foreplay tonight, folks. Let's get into it, shall we?

    QUAKE VS THUNDER

We've got Raspi, Skepsis, Vash, Guero, Peru, Deez Nuts, and Reaver

Mediocrity reigned supreme last week in Trench Wars League. Heavy and Thunder are a prime example of that. There are three really talented warbirds out of those ten. Apok, B4serman, and Ease.

Thunder is going to face up against a bloodthirsty Quake lineup thristy for a TWLD victory. Skepsis, Vash, Guero, and Raspi all have excellent TWLD stats to tote as well. 11-9, 10-7, 10-8, and 10-6 respectively.

Whereas, if we look at Thunder's TWLD semi lineup of Ease, b4serman_75x, Creature, Burnt, and killergt we have 10-8, 9-8, 8-6, 7-8 averages. As well as a Vitja's 9-9 coming off the bench or probably starting in place for Killergt in Finals. On a side note, yes, I have memorized everyone's statistics.

On paper Quake has this in 2 rounds easy, however, Thunder may be able to sneak in a sucker punch and steal a round like they almost did in TWLD regular season vs Quake. This is because Thunder has experience, excellent team play, and overall a consistent play style. They are a group of solid warbirds that have played for years and know how to play smart to get the win, without the prettiest records, usually letting either Ease or B4serman_75x do the carrying.

The problem is that Thunder simply doesn't have the level of skill, aim, and dodging ability that Quake does. Remember that killergt has the mobility of a stop sign and the aim of a three year old sniper, okay?

People love to talk about experience factors and such, but let's face it. If you're in the finals, you're one of the best warbirds in the game. Period. You know how to play and you're good under pressure. Quake outmatches Thunder in every single category.

We're going to tear them limb-from-limb, this isn't going to be an exciting finals, but I encourage everyone to come out and watch just because it's finals and you like the average subspacer don't have a date on a Sunday afternoon and you have nothing better do, but beat your dick.

Thunder you had a great season and you truly are the second best squad in Trench Wars League, the runner-up is all your getting this year again, unfortunately. Thanks for playing.

    Quake 50, Thunder 37.
    Quake 50, Thunder 39.

          WTF is with that?

Why do some ppl keep comparing this season (or any season) to an old season? It's completely pointless. There is NO WAY to know what would happen if an old squad and a squad of today would play. You can only guess and assume, but as ppl change and tw changes, so do the tactics used in twld (not to mention the other leagues). What about ppl who are/were on both rosters? Eh eh whatever. It would be interesting but to rank squads based on ppls own biased opinions from different timeperiods is pointless.

The only logical comparison would be to compare players/squads that are on their prime, then you could potentially decipher which squad is/was actually the best. For example syndicate was a magnificent squad which lasted a couple seasons, but who knows what will become of quake. Its only the first season for quake, so who knows whether it will become better/worse win a title or several, time will tell (and who knows for sure when tw life support will shutdown for good).

About this upcoming twld final, I just hope it will be a good, exciting game worthy of a twld final.

Imo the best and most consistant (probably so) twld squads of this season are playing in the finals and thats good! Lets just hope there wont be any rule/restart/etc fuckups. Heavy-thunder game was closer of the two semis, so its possible heavy could have won the 3rd round if there was one, but I still believe thunder with their experience perhaps would have taken the round in a close match. Quake-pirates wasnt maybe as close, sure there was the vys time -round, but we still took the rounds 3-1. Great game though.

Not to take away the skill in heavy and pirates though, good matchups in semis this year. I believe these 4 squads could compete in the "old" times too, and mind you I've played a long time. Would they win or get close, thats another thing but ppl shouting from the bushes this season about the decline of skill and making absurd comparisons is just pointless. Let bygones be bygones and value the tw we have today, it won't be around forever...or will it?

          :greedy: :P

Yeah I agree, to compare previous winners to current teams today is a bit unfair. As we honestly would not know the outcome. And really, it's also a respect thing. When those respective teams won it, they deserved to be called the best for that season. Each team on the winning side can build a case how they would beat everyone else. If Quake wins it, they too would stake claim in that debate. Same goes for Thunder. Should be a good one.
RaCka> how can i get you here

I agree with everything in your post except this...heavy didnt win a round. our game (2-1 [NOT 3-1...even ignite admits the appeal was legit]) had 2 close rounds of 50-47 (which u won a 3v2 with every1 in game on 9) and 50-45 (which we won). But yeah round 3 was quite the blow out.

seriously, i didnt want to go on a rant about this but when you keep shouting out bull shit stories, i gotta get involved...

how the hell are you guys calling it 3-1 and that "round 1" should have counted? earlier in the season, vash got subbed out and subbed back in and it apparently worked for you guys. we did THE EXACT SAME THING with hercules but it didnt work for him and he lost 3 or so lives making him die out 10 minutes into the game WHICH IS INCREDIBLY early for a TWLD game that can last 30 minutes (or a fucking hour as burnt showed)

all that shit about you guys being up 10 and were about to win anyway is bullshit. you guys were down like 15 at one point vs thunder (which i think is actually the game vash subbed out and back in now that i think of it) and you still came back. how can you guys possibly rule us out of a comeback of our own?

furthermore, even if our appeal didnt go through (which would have been insane high 5 to twl staff here) we would have won the "2nd" round and it would have been a 3 round game anyway.

you guys came out victorious anyway...you guys arent being total asshole about it but you keep sneaking it in somewhere on the forums...i dont know why you are being such sore winners about this it's really pissing me off

Don't worry about it dude. The chances are good that if it had been the other way around and Pirates had won, and Quake had been screwed through the same bug, that Pirates would be doing the same thing.. I'd probably do it just to piss ignite off. I can understand why they were frustrated, and so were we. It was an error that shouldn't have occurred and it created a lot of unnecessary frustration for both squads. In the end, Quake outplayed us for sure and they deserved the win. That said, your captain is the kind of dude that I love to hate, so I'll be pulling for Thunder this weekend.

I agreed the appeal was legitimate, but we did beat you 3-1. Get your facts straight. We were beating Thunder then fell to a -8 then came back to win. It wasn't -15, stop with the reductio ad absurdum to support your arguments. We beat you guys 3 rounds out of 4, we're clearly a much better team. That is the point. The only player to go positive that 2nd round was vys, besides your meaningless sub in, rushing when we're outnumbered.
